If I am not planning on drop shipping with shopify should I still use it for my own website?

To share some insight, dropshipping is only one business model that merchants use to sell online. It is not required to continue selling on Shopify. Rather, Shopify is an e-commerce platform merchants use to sell both online and in-person.
