I still haven’t set up my Shopify account, but I’m very interested in selling on-demand drop-shipped items using Printful, which I understand can be connected to Shopify.
I don’t understand how Printful gets paid after a customer orders something though. Does Shopify process the credit card of the customer and then pay Printful when placing the order? Or is there a separate transaction where I pay Printful on the side with a payment method I set up with them?
Thanks,
doug
Hi there, Doug. Thanks for taking the time to reach out to the Shopify Community today with your question around Print on Demand, and paying for their services. My name is Imogen. I’m happy to chat with you about your question!
It’s important to know that different PoD (Print on Demand) services may offer different integration features than others, so some may allow you to pay for orders automatically once they’re placed, while others may require you paying for production of your goods manually. Typically in a dropshipping/PoD situation, you would have an account with this vendor that has a payment method on file with them, likely a credit card. When an order is placed in your Shopify Store, your integration will allow you to either have that order automatically pushed to the vendor so they can be paid, and then product and package your order, or you’ll need to provide the customer’s details manually to the vendor, pay for the order manually, and then they begin the production process. To best understand how Printful would need to be handled, it would be a good idea to consult Printful’s support documents. Additionally, you can also look into contacting Printful’s support team directly for information.
Thank you. I’ve confirmed how this works with Printful. I’m anxious to create a store and start an experiment after I have some designs done!
