Image Sizing Issue - KILL ME NOW!!!!

Topic summary

Banner image in the Shopify Dawn theme header renders too tall (around 500–700px). The poster wants a much shorter header and the ability to use different images for mobile vs. desktop without custom CSS. They suspect the issue relates to “intrinsic size” (the browser using the image’s natural dimensions/aspect ratio).

Context: Site is lazystoner.com, with a top banner and a Halloween image beneath. An attached screenshot shows the source image; there was confusion over reported dimensions.

Image details: One reply suggested the original appeared ~750×98 and recommended at least 1400px width. The poster clarified the actual image is 1905×250.

Suggestions offered:

  • Check Image Banner settings for options like “show original image” or “fit to screen,” which affect scaling/cropping.
  • Ensure adequate image width for desktop to avoid upscaling artifacts.

Status: No confirmed fix yet. Open questions: how to constrain the Dawn header/banner height reliably and how to serve distinct mobile/desktop images without resorting to custom CSS.

Ok, I have been a web developer for years but not in Shopify. I cannot for the life of me figure out why my Image Banner module which I am using in my header. It’s the stupid Intrinsic size thing. I am embarrassed to even have to ask this question. I am using the Dawn theme. And I hate that I have to add custom css to even differentiate a mobile vs desktop image (why wouldn’t it allow me upload a separate one).

Anyways, my site is lazystoner.com.

Please do not ream me for asking this. I just can’t spend more time on it.

You’ll see the top image and then I have another one for Halloween underneath.

I do not want a header image that is 500-700px high. I just think thats too tall for what I want.

Thanks everyone.

@lazystoner original image showing 750x98… can you make image atleast 1400px width?

The original image is 1905x250

@lazystoner check banner options ,check if it has anything like show original image, fit to screen etc
