Import / sync from Zettle to Shopify

Topic summary

A user with 25 years of IT experience is struggling with Shopify’s trial period, finding the platform difficult to learn and use. They’ve spent 2-3 hours attempting to bulk import approximately 200 products but repeatedly encounter a “Validation failed: Owner subtype does not match the metafield definition’s constraints” error.

Main Question:
The user wants to know if they can import/sync their existing point-of-sale products from Zettle into Shopify (rather than the reverse direction).

Proposed Solution:
Another user suggests using Zapier as an integration tool to automatically sync products from Zettle to Shopify. The workflow involves:

  • Setting up a trigger for new products added in Zettle
  • Configuring an action to create corresponding products in Shopify
  • Testing the integration

Note: This solution requires a paid Zapier plan for handling large product volumes.

The discussion remains open regarding the original bulk import validation error.

Hi all,

I’m currently on a trail with Shopify, and to be brutally honest, hating it. For background, I’ve worked in IT for 25 years and this has got to be one of the steepest learning curves and worst experiences I’ve come across when trying to learn / use a new platform.

Having spent the last 2-3 hours trying to upload circa 200 products into Shopify via the bulk importer, I’m ready to completely give up and find a different online solution after constantly running into the always cryptic "Validation failed: Owner subtype does not match the metafield definition’s constraints" error all night.

My last hope is that somehow I can integrate my in person PoS products, currently in Zettle, into Shopify (not the other way round). Does anyone know if this is possible as I can’t find anything which says it is.

Thanks

Hi @Rich-T

Mate, lets take a look at the second problem, You can use Zapier to Sync Zettle → Shopify, Zapier can help sync products from Zettle into Shopify automatically. It requires a paid Zapier plan if you have a lot of products.

Steps:

  1. Create a Zapier account
  2. Set up a trigger:
    • Trigger: New product added in Zettle.
    • Action: Create product in Shopify.
  3. Test.

Hope this helps.
