Hello! wondering how to make my Impulse Theme Hero banner a video? i want it to automatically play. Also, what kind of video (MP4?) and what aspect ratio does it need to be? thanks!

To set up a hero banner video in the Impulse theme with autoplay, here’s what you can do:

1. Video Format and Aspect Ratio- Format: Most Shopify themes, including Impulse, support MP4 videos for background banners, as it’s widely compatible and compressed.

  • Aspect Ratio: Typically, a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9 works well for hero banners (e.g., 1920x1080 or 1280x720) to avoid cropping on different screen sizes.

2. Uploading the Video- Option 1: Shopify Files: Go to Settings > Files in Shopify, upload your MP4 video, and note the URL.

  • Option 2: YouTube or Vimeo: You can embed a YouTube or Vimeo link if the theme supports it. This will save Shopify storage, but note that YouTube may show controls, which could be less seamless.

3. Adding the Video to the Hero Banner- Go to the Theme Editor (Customize) for the Impulse theme.

  • Select the Hero Banner or Slideshow section.
  • Look for an option to Add Video or Video URL. Paste the MP4 URL (from your uploaded Shopify file or YouTube/Vimeo link).
  • Enable Autoplay if there’s an option. In some cases, autoplay may work by default for self-hosted videos but might not autoplay on mobile to save data.
