Incoming no longer works

I wrote about this weeks ago and nothing has been done to make it work.
I use the Incoming part of inventory tracking to hide the real quantity I have of a title on hand (or forthcoming / preorder) from those smart folk who know how to check the inventory levels.
But Incoming has not worked ever since these ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE inventory changes have been implemented.
Does anyone else have the same problem and need Shopify to fix it - or preferably revert back to the previous inventory management system cos we ALL HATE the new method.

Hey @Richie_Ramone

People can only “check your inventory levels” if your theme is exposing the number, usually through a low stock or “only X left” display. Turn that off in your theme so the count never shows at all, and the snooping stops regardless of what Incoming does. For the forthcoming and preorder titles, set them to continue selling when out of stock and add a preorder badge instead of parking stock in Incoming, which handles presales without revealing real numbers. If you want, I can lock your theme down so inventory quantity isn’t exposed anywhere on the storefront, which fixes this properly instead of relying on a field Shopify just changed under you.

Hope that helps! If it did, a Like and Marking it as Solution goes a long way and helps others find the fix faster too.

Best,
Moeed

No. Wrong. People that know what letters to add to the end of the URL can see your inventory level. I know this hack, it works for all Shopify sites.
I don’t use any kind of “only X left” function but as I said in my original post, “those smart folk who know how to check the inventory levels”.
Shopify just needs to wind back these horrible inventory changes.

No, man, it’s not longer the case.

Yes, you can add .js or .json to the end of your product page URL, but inventory quantity is no longer there for how long – 5, 10 years?

Ah – 8 years.

All other requests require authentication.

Hello @Richie_Ramone
One work around some merchants do is to split the preorder inventory into a separate location and not enable that location on the Online Store sales channel, so the available quantity doesn’t leak the actual incoming numbers. Others opt to continue selling when out of stock and handle preorder status with a product metafield or tag, then expose that throgh theme logic, or with a preorder app, rather than use Incoming. It’s not ideal, but it does keep at least visibility controlled and the background stock accurate.

I appreciate the attempt to help @SealSubs-Roan but, having already experienced problems with “separate locations” (that shouldn’t exist in my store) I am loathe to actually introduce such locations.

As for “continue selling when out of stock” - absolutely NO WAY.
That’s a recipe for endless “Please refund my order” type complaints.
