Shopify has always, correctly, charged VAT of 23% on all purchases up until this week when an order came in and the VAT was charged at 9%. Has anyone else experienced a change like this? I can’t see anywhere where I can confirm the VAT rate being charged and change it manually. Any help is greatly appreciated! Two recent order screenshots below… Thanks
In your Settings > Taxes and Duties are you collecting taxes and if you click European Union what is the Tax Service being used at the top?
I only ask because Shopify seem to be messing up the VAT rates for products at the moment! Last week we randomly had loads of orders for products where Shopify Tax decided that the product type suddenly had a VAT rate of Zero. There was no where to check the rate it was charging, we could only do it changing the product type to something else that Shopify thought had 20% VAT.
The final solution was to abandon the Shopify Tax service because it is clearly not fit for purpose for us. So we switched it to Basic Tax. And suddenly everything has VAT being charged correctly again.
