Increase in the aov without affecting website speed

Let’s say we have a website and our AOV for the product is only $15. We want to increase the AOV through FBT and upselling products on the product page and cart.

What would be your suggestions? What more can we do to increase this AOV and get at least $40?

Meta is taking a $13-$20 CPA out of that.

Suggest some good apps as well that can help…

Hey @cartowl

$15 AOV against a $13 to $20 CPA means you’re underwater before product cost, so $40 is survival.

  • Biggest lever is bundles, push single orders into “buy 2 get X% off” or 3 packs that clear $40 in one decision.
  • Pair with a free shipping threshold around $40 to $45, that nudge often moves AOV more than any app.
  • Add cart FBT (Selleasy) and post purchase one click upsells (ReConvert) for incremental revenue.

Real talk though, running cold Meta traffic to a single $15 product rarely works at those margins. The fix is usually leading the ad with a bundle so the entry offer is already $35 to $40, not bolting upsells onto a $15 item. What’s the category?

Hi @cartowl

At a $15 AOV with a $13–$20 Meta CPA, increasing cart value should honestly become the main focus.

The best strategies are usually:

  • Bundle offers & quantity discounts
  • Free shipping threshold around $35–$45
  • Product page + cart upsells (FBT, add-ons, accessories)
  • Post-purchase upsells
  • Sticky cart and quick add features

Apps worth trying:
Bundler, Rebuy, Monk, Selleasy, UpCart, and Essential Free Shipping Bar.
Usually bundles and multi-buy offers make the biggest impact on low-AOV stores.

We tried stacking a bunch of upsell widgets once and the store started feeling noticeably heavier on mobile. The annoying part was every app added a little more JS and suddenly product pages felt sluggish even though each app individually seemed fine. Ended up keeping only one simple cart upsell instead of layering FBT + sticky cart + popup stuff together.

Hey there @cartowl,

In think instead of relying purely on FBT widgets, youcan try making bundles or multi-packing your main entry offer. Try directing your ads to a “Buy 3” deal or a “Starter Kit.” Pair this with a cart progress bar (e.g., “Spend $10 more for Free Shipping” or a Free Gift set at a $45 threshold) to psychologically push them over that $40 mark.

For the actual tactics, post-purchase one-click upsells and sliding cart add-ons are incredibly effective. Apps like ReConvert, Selleasy, UpCart, or Monk are fantastic for setting these up.

However, a quick word of caution: be careful not to install too many at once. Upsell widgets add a lot of heavy JavaScript, which can easily slow down your mobile site or cause checkout glitches. Start by testing one clean, fast-loading bundle offer first, see how your AOV responds, and build from there.

Out of curiosity, what exact product category are you selling? Knowing the niche might help dial in the absolute best bundle strategy!

Hope this helps,

Before picking an app, I would map the AOV problem around buying intent. Moving from $15 to $40 is a big jump, so a generic ‘frequently bought together’ block may not be enough unless the add-ons feel like part of the same job the customer is trying to do.

I would test in this order:

1. Build a bundle that solves one complete use case, not just 2-3 random products.
2. Put the bundle/upgrade on the product page before cart, so the higher AOV is framed before the customer has mentally chosen $15.
3. Use cart upsells only for obvious replenishment or accessories, because cart is often too late for a $25 jump.

Given Meta is taking $13-$20 CPA, I would also check whether the product can support paid traffic at all unless the first purchase includes a bundle or subscription/repeat-purchase angle.

You can create quantity variant instead of installing any app. For example:

  • 1 item ($15)
  • 2 items ($29)
  • 3 items ($43)

In order to increase thhe AOV of a Shopify site, you need to play smartly.

You need to add upsell, cross sell, product recommendations in the cart and checkout as well to increase the AOV.

Offering % off also helps to increase the AOV.

If your current AOV is around $15, I’d focus on building tiered incentives. The goal is to make customers feel that the next reward is always close enough to reach.

For example:

  • Tier 1: Spend $20 → unlock free shipping
Customers with a $15 cart only need to add around $5 more. That feels like a small, reasonable step instead of a big jump.

  • Tier 2: Spend $40 → get a free small gift or discount
Once customers hit $20, they’re already halfway there, which can encourage 1–2 more add-ons.

  • Tier 3: Spend $80 → get a more premium gift or better discount
This targets higher-intent shoppers without forcing every customer to reach a high threshold.

Tip: A gift doesn’t have to be expensive; just adding value to the customer’s order is ok. Value > price.

Then use a cart progress bar to promote these milestones clearly.

On the product page, I’d still use FBT to suggest 2–3 relevant add-ons.

Hope it helps your business!
