Increase padding on both sides of a section

I’m trying to increase the padding on both sides of this section on my homepage:

I tried this code:

#shopify-section-template–18647897538772__rich_text_B7Na4W .p {
max-width: 50% !important;
}

but it didn’t work. What am I doing wrong?

To complete your requests, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to Shopify Admin > Online Store > Theme > Customize > Theme Settings > Custom CSS https://prnt.sc/i8ljAMlHJUKl
  2. Paste the code provided into the Custom CSS section.

max-width: 50% !important;
margin-inline: auto;
}

I tried, but it gave me an error and said I couldn’t save my CSS because there’s an error and it’s invalid CSS.
