Hi Shopify Community,
I’ve completed the setup for Facebook & Instagram by Shopify and the Shopify side appears to be configured correctly.
-
Instagram Shop is showing as Active
-
Shopify Product Catalog is connected to Meta
-
Around 1,500 products are approved
-
Products are published to the Facebook & Instagram sales channel
-
Products are syncing successfully to the Meta catalog
-
I’m able to tag the products in Instagram Reels
However, I’m facing an issue after tagging the products.
When I create a Reel and tag a product, the product tag appears correctly. But when I click the tagged product and select “Visit Website”, it takes me to my Shopify store and shows:
“Page not found – The link may be incorrect, or the page has been removed.”
The strange part is that the product still exists and is available on my Shopify store, and the product page works when accessed directly from Shopify.
This makes me think that the product URL being passed from Shopify to the Meta/Instagram catalog may be incorrect, outdated, or still pointing to an old URL structure.
The store was previously running on WordPress/WooCommerce, so I’m also wondering whether an old Meta/WooCommerce catalog or product URL is still being used somewhere.
Has anyone experienced this issue when migrating from WooCommerce to Shopify?
I’d like to understand:
-
Where can I check the exact product URL being sent from Shopify to the Meta catalog?
-
How can I verify which catalog Instagram is using for product tagging?
-
Could an old WooCommerce/WordPress Meta catalog or URL be causing this?
-
Is there a way to force Shopify/Meta to refresh or regenerate the product URLs?
Any guidance on where I should troubleshoot this would be greatly appreciated.
The fact that tagging works but “Visit Website” returns a Shopify 404 narrows this to the catalog item link, rather than general product approval.
I would test one affected SKU before disconnecting or rebuilding anything:
- In Shopify, open Sales channels > Facebook & Instagram > Product status / View products and note the affected product plus any issue shown.
- In Meta Commerce Manager, open the exact catalog connected to the Instagram account, find that same item, and copy the destination link stored on the item.
- Compare it with the current Shopify product URL — domain,
/products/handle, any market/language prefix, and query parameters.
- Open Meta’s stored link in a private window. If it contains the old WooCommerce path or old domain, add a Shopify redirect for that exact broken path as a temporary safety net, then correct the catalog/source connection rather than relying only on the redirect.
Shopify says product changes normally resync automatically, so I would not delete or reconnect a 1,500-item catalog until this one-SKU comparison shows whether the cause is a stale link, the wrong catalog/asset, or a market/domain URL issue.
Could you share the current Shopify URL and the failing Meta “Visit Website” URL for one non-sensitive product (with the domain redacted if needed)? That pair should identify the correct branch.
I’d check the actual link inside Meta’s catalog for one broken item, because that will tell you whether Instagram is pulling the Shopify URL or an old WooCommerce one.
In Commerce Manager, open the catalog, find the product, then look at the item details for the website link and compare it to the live Shopify product URL.
If the handle changed during the migration, Meta can keep an old URL around until the item is refreshed, which is why the product page works in Shopify but the tag still lands on a 404.
The other place I’d check is the product feed source in Meta, not just the Shopify sales channel status. I’ve seen a clean-looking Shopify connection still point at stale catalog items after a platform move, especially when the old WooCommerce catalog was never fully retired.
Re-syncing the product alone usually isn’t enough if the catalog item itself still has the old link, so I’d test one SKU by editing the product in Shopify, saving it again, then forcing a fresh sync and rechecking the URL in Commerce Manager.
Thanks for solution but I now find out the issue the Products URL have “/product” instead of “/products” how can we resolve this
Thanks for solution but I now find out the issue the Products URL have “/product” instead of “/products” how can we resolve this. Is that might be coming from the old website. How can I confirm that weather Instagram is fetching the data from Shopify or the WooCommerce
Yes — “/product/…” is the wrong path for a Shopify product; Shopify uses “/products/…”. Test one item before changing the full catalog:
- Copy the exact failing path, for example /product/example-handle.
- In Shopify Admin go to Content > Menus > View URL redirects > Create URL redirect. Redirect that broken path to /products/example-handle, then test it in a private window. Shopify’s guide is here: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-store/menus-and-links/url-redirect
- In Meta Commerce Manager open Catalog > Data sources, then open the same item. The item’s source name tells you whether it belongs to the old WooCommerce feed/catalog or the Facebook & Instagram by Shopify connection.
If the source is old WooCommerce, retire that source only after confirming Instagram is connected to the Shopify catalog. If the source says Shopify but still sends /product/, save/resync that one Shopify item and recheck before touching the other 1,499 products.
If one redirect works and the same pattern affects many items, don’t create 1,500 redirects by hand. I can turn a redacted export into an old→new redirect CSV plus an exception list after you confirm one handle and the data-source name.
Good find. Shopify never generates /product/ singular, its product URLs are always /products/handle, no setting can change that. /product/ is WooCommerce’s default permalink base. So those catalog items are carrying data from your old WooCommerce feed.
Next, go to Commerce Manager, open the catalog, then Data sources. My bet is you’ll find two sources there, an old WooCommerce feed alongside the Facebook & Instagram by Shopify connection, or the Instagram shop is attached to the old WooCommerce catalog entirely.
Retire the old source (or point the shop at the Shopify catalog) and the bad URLs go with it. If a product tag was placed against an old catalog item it may need re-tagging afterward, so test one Reel before you call it done.
So currently, the Shopify catalog is visible in the Commerce Manager. But there is one more catalog too. I’m confused about how I can connect this Shopify catalog with Instagram. Instagram and the catalog are both present in the Commerce Manager, but I’m not able to connect both of them with each other. Can you guide me in detail, like where I can connect both of them? I have no idea how Commerce Manager and all this stuff work.
Seeing the Shopify catalog in Commerce Manager does not yet confirm that Instagram is using it. Please do not delete or disconnect either catalog.
Shopify’s setup guide starts from the Facebook & Instagram by Meta sales channel; the selected business portfolio, Facebook Page and Instagram account need the right ownership/access. The exact next step depends on the connection screen or error you see:
https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-sales-channels/social-commerce/facebook-instagram-by-meta/setup
For the detailed, store-specific work, I can offer a USD49 fixed-scope connection review: up to three redacted setup screenshots, a written map of one Instagram account and the intended Shopify catalog, a step-by-step checklist, and one follow-up check of the result. You keep control of all account changes. No passwords, customer information, full-catalog repair or promise of Meta approval.
Would that bounded review be useful? We would agree the inputs before payment; the earlier bulk redirect file is a separate scope.
