Intending to deactivate store. Do I need to repurchase theme should I re-open it?

Background

I recently purchased a premium theme and need to shut down the store for a long time because of personal circumstances. Thus, to save costs, I believe it is better to deactivate (instead of pausing the store and continuing to pay monthly Shopify fees).

I understand from (https://community.shopify.com/c/shopify-design/transfer-premium-theme-to-another-account/m-p/1435074), that when you purchase a theme, it is tied to one specific store.

Question

When I re-open the store, I understand that I cannot use the same URL. (https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/your-account/pause-deactivate-store). Therefore, do I need to rebuy the premium theme again? Thanks

If you deactivate your online store, then you can't create a new online store that uses the same myshopify.com domain. You can create a new store that is branded with the same name, but your myshopify.com domain is unique to each store. For example, you deactivate a store that you named Very Good Things and that had the URL very-good-things.myshopify.com. If you decide to create a new store, then you can still name it Very Good Things, but you can't reuse the URL very-good-things.myshopify.com.

Hello @Titanfall

The message means you can not create another store with the same myshopify.com domain.

If you reopen your store, the myshopify.com domain will keep the same, so no need to buy the theme again.

Thanks. So I can deactivate the store completely (pay Shopify zero fees for any number of months), then reactivate the store and continue using the same domain with the theme I purchased?

Yes, that is correct.

Once I completely deactivate my store! How long would that take to get my remaining balance from my one-year subscription?

You will not receive your remaining balance. Instead, it will become Shopify credit, and will be used if you open the store again.
