Hi there, I’m based in the UK and sell through Shopify, currently only offering shipping to UK addresses.
I use Shipstation to process the order and print the shipping label. Shipstation is connected via API to two different external carrier accounts, where I have a flat rate for shipping. So I know - and can control - my costs. There are no surprises for me or my customers.
I currently deal with international orders by creating a manual order / invoice through Shopify and getting a manual shipping quote from an international courier, Transglobal Express. However, I want to be able to sell internationally in a much more scalable way, rather than processing each international order manually
One of my issues is that shipping costs vary wildly for the products I sell, as they can range from 0.2kg to 25kg in weight. A few extra kilograms in weight can take a shipping fee from £19 to £59 quite easily.
How do I go about setting up shipping for international buyers, in such a way that I can generate accurate shipping quotes and also be able to fulfil these orders with a more automated system?
Hi @WooCommerceLuvr ,
The best and effective solution will be :
Add Accurate Weights to all your products in Shopify.
Install PluginHive’s Multi Carrier Shipping Label App
- Connect your existing carrier accounts (e.g. DHL, UPS, FedEx).
- Shows real-time international shipping rates at checkout.
- Auto-generates shipping labels and sends orders to ShipStation.
Enable Carrier-Calculated Shipping on Shopify
- Required to show real-time shipping rates (request via Shopify support if not on Advanced plan).
Use Shopify Markets to manage international pricing, currency, and taxes.
- Optional: Enable duties/taxes to be charged at checkout.
This help your International customers see accurate shipping costs at checkout. Orders flow into ShipStation, ready for label printing. No manual quotes or invoices needed.
Please let me know if it solves your problem .
Thanks !
That’s a great reply Steven, thank you very much.
I can see a few issues here (for example international orders require a bit more paperwork and time which needs to be reflected in the shipping price) and also how we get couriers to come and collect these ad-hoc shipments (we have a daily collection with our UK provider).
Thank you though, for your very clear reply.
