Inventory adjustment history with comments and CSV export

Hi everyone!

I’d like to suggest an improvement related to inventory management in Shopify.

At the moment, when making stock adjustments (e.g. setting inventory to unavailable, manual quantity changes, corrections, etc.), there’s no way to add a comment or reason explaining why the adjustment was made. Also, the inventory history is quite limited and not easily exportable for further analysis.

It would be extremely useful to have:

  1. The ability to add a comment to each inventory adjustment.

  2. A detailed inventory movement log including date, user, quantity change, previous and new value, and comment.

  3. The option to export this inventory history to CSV or Excel.

This would greatly improve inventory traceability, internal controls, and auditability—especially for stores with multiple staff members or high volumes of stock movements.

Is this something others are also missing? Would love to hear your thoughts.

We identified the same issue you did and created Inventory History Guardian it literally has all the features you’ve asked for

  1. You can add comments to any adjustment so you know why it occured
  2. You can get the full information about what user/app adjusted the inventory, the reason why and more
  3. You can export to CSV for importing into Excel
