I need help. I need to track inventory but not at multiple variant levels - just at one variant level.
Example - I have one necklace pendant to sell. I offer both sterling silver and gold filled necklace chain. I offer both metals in 4 different lengths. I need to track the inventory on the one pendant I have available versus all the different metals/lengths.
I would love to do this on the product page versus having to navigate from a product, to an app, and back to the product. I installed VSI but it isn’t solving my problem. Please help me.
Here are a few approaches that usually work depending on how you want the storefront to behave:
-Treat the pendant as “true” product and chain options as customizations.
-Use one “dummy” variant for inventory and convert the metal and length into non-inventory options.
-If the chains do need their own inventory counts, consider an app.
For your pendant product, you can easily create the Metal and Length selections using Easify Product Options, and these options won’t affect your inventory at all. Shopify will track inventory only for your single pendant product, while the chain choices (metal + length) are just display options, not real variants.
Here’s an example I’ve created so you can see how it works:
First, you just need to create a new Option Set in Easify and add options that match the structure of your product. For the metal type, you can use the Button display style so customers can easily see and select their preferred material. Then, add a Dropdown option for the chain length, which keeps the interface clean and intuitive.
All of these selections are simply custom options, so Easify does not track inventory for the Metal or Length choices. The system only tracks inventory for the main product (the pendant). This allows you to keep the pendant as a single product with one true inventory count, while all chain material and length selections remain purely visual options that do not affect Shopify’s inventory. When a customer places an order, Shopify will only deduct stock from the pendant — no new variants are created, and your inventory will not be split across multiple option combinations.
