Is a duplicate of our current theme enough of a backup? Or do we need an App?

My web team and I recently did an audit of all the apps we pay for on Shopify and we’re trying to cut ones we don’t. We currently have Rewind Backups as well asTheme Updater & Backups.

I know we have duplicates of several of our past themes in Shopify’s built-in Theme Library on the Online Store channel. Will these duplicates act as a backup to restore everything on the website, including our products, customer list, web sales, etc? If something catastrophic happened, would that suffice, or should we be utilizing an App for backup?

Hi Natalie,

Those are completely separate things. Having copies of your theme can guarantee that you can only restore your theme. In other words, what your website looks like. You won’t be able to restore data like customers, sales, etc.

To be able to restore your data you need to use a backup app.

Cool, that’s what I thought, thank you!
