I recently had my store upgraded to Shopify 2 and redesigned. As part of this the agency created more landing pages for some of the key collections. These pages do not use the Collection Header, instead the Title is included in the Rich Text, as ‘Title’. Now Ubersuggest is telling me all of these pages, and other specifically created pages, do not have H1s. Is this a problem?
Hi @Kate_Findlay ,
No, this is not an issue. Shopify theme’s purposefully omit H1 tags as they are not necessary, and all of our themes are optimized for SEO purposes. We are aware that many SEO apps will flag missing H1 tags as an issue but these sites and services are often offer “one size fits all” recommendations and do not take the specific build of Shopify themes into consideration. Our themes team are confident that not having H1 tags has no negative bearing on SEO and our themes are well organized and structured by default.
If you’re looking to optimize your store’s SEO we would instead recommend focusing on adding alt text to all of your images, for one. You can refer to our Help Center document on improving search engine optimization for more recommendations.
That’s really useful Victor. Thank you. So I can ignore all I’ve been told about H1/2/3 etc?
Hi @Kate_Findlay ,
Header tags can be important in terms of website development in general when you’re looking to optimize SEO, but for Shopify-made themes it is not something you need to be concerned with. Our themes team build themes for our merchants with optimal SEO in mind and the manner in which our themes are built means header tags do not need to be manually added.
If you decide to host your storefront elsewhere or have other websites on other platforms then it may be beneficial to add header tags, as I can only speak for Shopify sites.
