Is a VAT number necessary for a Germany-based online store selling in the USA?

Dear all,

I live in Germany where my Shopify business address is located.

I am completing my very first Shopify store. I am still new here.

This is my first time constructing and running the Shopify store.

I don’t have an intention to register my store as a business.

My intention is to online dropship and sell only to USA with free shipping.

There is no my physical store in Germany and USA.

Do I need a VAT number? Also, some doubts below.

  1. Tax and Duties

It shows that “You are not charging taxes on some product variants. Make sure all of your taxable variants are set up to charge taxes.”

Do I need to set up the charge taxes?

  1. Billing >> Tax Registration

Personally, I don’t have a VAT number. I only have a personal tax number. Do I need to apply for a VAT number?
