So our current situation is this: we use the Debut theme and we choose Dutch as our theme language. Now we want to add English as an extra language. We know this is usually done with an translation app but none of the translation app we used was adequate for us(good integratable with my theme instead of a hovering language switcher and good usability/customization).
So, we thought to translate our site 100% manually because its not that big anyways. For that we want to select English as our theme language and “add” Dutch. But doing this will delete our current Dutch translation. Can we just export it and then import it again? Is this the best way?

Regards your concern about multilanguage of theme. And about your question about export and import again. I found this article from Shopify about export content CSV: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/markets/languages/translate#:~:text=Steps%3A-,From%20your%20Shopify%20admin%2C%20go%20to%20Settings.,want%20to%20add%20translations%20for.
You can take a look on this about how to.
And if the translation does not meet your requirement i think the better solution is doing that manually, that will contain all content on your page
Hope this will help
