Is it possible to have a subdomain store for different products and languages?

Hello, wondering if setting up a subdomain to my existing store is possible to offer a different product that is completely different from that of my main store. Additionally, I would like to use other subdomains for those two products in different languages so I would essentially like to have a 1) main domain store product, 2) a subdomain second and different product, 3) a subdomain main store diff. language product and 4) subdomain second and different product diff. language. I hope that makes sense. Thanks in advance.

Example:

  1. Main domain - T-shirt (English)

  2. Subdomain - T-shirt (Spanish)

  3. Subdomain - Wall Art (English)

  4. Subdomain - Wall Art (Spanish)

Hi, @marmalonline .

This is a great question, thanks for posting!

You can go about this in a few ways depending on your current business model. When you want to use the Spanish language, is this regional? For example, customers viewing your store from Spain, Mexico, or any Spanish language country? Or, is it for American customers who potentially speak Spanish as a first language? Additionally, can you tell me more about why you are looking to have a subdomain specifically?

If this is for American shoppers, you can simply provide language options instead of a subdomain. This can be achieved easily if you have a theme that has a language selector. If your theme doesn’t have a language selector, you can install the Geolocation app by Shopify. I recommend checking out our help guide that provides full detailed instructions on how to set this up!

If you are looking to sell to other regions, and not just use other languages, this can be done via Shopify Markets. This will allow users to visit your store from around the world and view it in their local language, currency, and even domain!

I hope that helps! In the meantime, please provide why you are specifically looking for a subdomain to differ languages as this will allow me to understand further and provide a more tailored solution. Additionally, I would love to view your website if you can provide that as well!

Hello Skye, thank you so much for the quick reply. The reason for my question is that I would like to “host” everything under the same domain for simplicity, under the same store. I wouldn’t want potential customers to be going from one website to another simply to buy from my store, but a the same time I would like to keep the products rather separate from each other because I want to “niche” the products into their own category.

So I would like to do something like:

tshirts.mycompany.com;

es.tshirts.mycompany.com;

art.mycompany.com; and

es.art.mycompany.com.

Even if I decide to just go with tshirts.mycompany.com and art.mycompany.com and use the Geolocation App to offer a spanish version of those two (to the spanish-speaking community in the US).

I am currently still in phase one of building my store from the ground up and adding products but I hope to be open for business in the next month or so. If I am able to to have subdomains, the whole idea to me is similar to how P&G owns Rejoice, Pantene, Olay, Gillete, Head & Shoulders, etc.; or how J&J owns Rogaine, Neutrogena, Aveeno or Lubriderm; All under a parent company but different brands. I know I am far from it for even comparing my store to those but it’s my idea behind it.

Is it possible? Thanks.
