We’ve had no success with apps that use AI or other methods of displaying related products on the product page. We get few clicks and the products displayed have little or no logical relation to the main product. We’ve come to the conclusion that we need a customised approach in order to match related products by a phrase or word in the product title.
For example we have three products with the following product titles:
All That Jazz Coaster
All That Jazz Tablemat
All That Jazz Art Print
We’d like to match on the “All That Jazz” phrase, discarding the Coaster, Tablemat and Art Print elements.
Additionally we have products titled like this:
Grasmere Postcard
Grasmere Dawn Greetings Card
Grasmere Boats Coaster
And we’d like to match only on the ‘Grasmere’ element.
We have nearly 2,000 products in the shop, so doing this manually is out of the question. I suspect it will involve setting up a Metafield where we can add in the portion of the Product Title we’d like to match on, in the cases above that would be “All That Jazz” or “Grasmere”. We can create and upload these through a CSV file, as we manage product updates this way. We already use tags for other purposes, so these are out of the question.
I have a feeling it could be possible to code a section to display related products that match the metafield, but not sure how. We’d have to avoid displaying the current product, and be able to limit the number of results.
Are there any apps that would achieve what we need? Or would a custom app be the way forward?
