Is it possible to make phone number at checkout required in some countries but no on other countries

So i’ve been getting orders from countries where it’s required for them to provide a phone number, but i was wondering if i could have it only ask for the number in certain countries because some people might be thrown off when asked for their number. Is there anyway for me to do this on the basic plan? Or do I have to upgrade to a higher plan?

You can try making the shipping address phone number as “Optional” instead of “Required” in this case. To do that, please follow these steps:

  • In Shopify admin > go to Settings > Checkout

  • Scroll down to Customer Information section and choose “Optional” on Shipping address phone number and save your changes after that.

For those still looking for a solution to this, unfortunately, there is no way to achieve this without an app.

You can make it so that a phone field is added at checkout for customers to enter a phone number, but this can either be required for all buyers, or optional for all buyers, there’s no way to make it required for only certain countries.

For the optional phone number option, the field label text can be customized to say something to the effect that a phone is required for some destination countries.

This will work to reduce issues from countries where a phone number is required, but it won’t eliminate them as buyers can just leave the field blank.

There is a paid app, called ZonePhoneGate, that solves this very issue by allowing store owners to require a phone number at checkout but only for countries that the store owner selects in the app’s settings page.
