I’ve been doing a bit of a SEO audit and one of the recommendations was Google likes established and reputable businesses and they like to see domains that are registered or being held for longer periods of time. Is it possible to purchase a domain through Shopify for longer than the 1 year period?

Thank you for reaching out with your question. At this time, domains can only be registered for a year at a time when purchased via Shopify.
With that being said, you can enable auto-renewal for your domain so that you do not risk it expiring and keep ownership as long as your store remains active.
If your domain subscription expires, and you want to keep using your domain, then you have 40 days to contact Shopify support to renew it. This is sometimes referred to as the grace period. You can’t renew an expired domain yourself.

An alternative option is to buy your domain using Cloudflare, which allows you to buy up to 10 years. Then point the DNS to Shopify.
