We have a separate website for one of our collections (secondary brand), we’re going to phase it out and merge it with the main store and want all visitors from the extension website to land on our main website but on to specific collection ->> “.com/collections/XYZ”
The domain is hosted on Shopify at the moment, I want to transfer it to GoDaddy where hopefully there will be more settings. But I wanted to check if this is even possible to achieve…
To redirect your secondary brand’s domain to a specific collection page on your main website, you’ll need to transfer the domain to GoDaddy. Once the domain transfer is complete, you can set up a redirect to the specific collection page on your main website.
Use a 301 redirect: This is the most common and recommended approach. You can set up a 301 redirect from your secondary website’s domain to the specific collection on your main website. This will automatically redirect visitors to the desired collection when they visit the old website
Use a subdomain: If you want to keep the secondary brand as a separate entity, you can use a subdomain on your main website. For example, you could create a subdomain like “collection.xyz.com” and redirect traffic from the old website to that subdomain.
Use a custom URL: Another option is to use a custom URL, which can be set up through Shopify’s domain settings. You can create a URL like “xyz.com” and have it redirect to the specific collection on your main website. This option is a bit more involved, but it provides greater control over the URL and branding.
Regardless of which option you choose, it’s important to properly set up redirects and inform your visitors of the change to avoid any confusion or lost traffic.
