Is it possible to test migration on Shopify Plus Sandbox first?

Topic summary

A user wants to test the QuickBooks Desktop Connector (QDC) migration on a Shopify Plus sandbox before implementing it on their live store. They’re questioning whether they can use their main store ID to associate the app with a sandbox.

Key Challenge Identified:

  • Each store requires a unique Store ID to use QDC and Stocky apps
  • Shopify confirmed sandboxes aren’t possible due to this unique ID requirement

Critical Warning from Experience:
Another user attempted testing on a separate store but encountered severe issues:

  • QDC data didn’t clear when moving to production
  • The test QuickBooks company file shared the same company ID as production
  • QDC data is keyed to company ID and exists outside Shopify stores, causing persistent conflicts
  • Support (escalated to developer Shoppinpal) hasn’t resolved the issue after a week
  • Required creating multiple new stores and requesting new unique IDs from Shopify

Recommendation:
If not specifically testing the QuickBooks connection, skip the final integration step during testing. Based on reported experience, connecting QDC to a test store appears inadvisable due to complications when performing the actual production migration.

Thank you for the feedback, it’s really good insight to have.

Was the test store you used another Shopify store? Asking because Shopify has since confirmed a sandbox isn’t possible because you need to have a unique store ID to speak to Quickbooks (I’m still not clear this is necessary though, as we already have the file export from QB as provided by our client so as far as I can tell just need the connector app and Stocky).

Based on your experience, it seems inadvisable to connect QB to the test store at all due to avoid complications when wanting to perform migration on the actual production store (existing).

Appreciate the feedback!
