First and foremost, I want to assure you that Shopify does not sell your information. Please see the Shopify Privacy Policy for details on how your information is used.
The messages you’re seeing via your store’s contact form and email seem to be spam. These messages are sometimes sent through the use of software that creates automated messages.
I understand that receiving these types of messages can be frustrating, but I do have a couple solutions to help you minimize the amount of spam coming through:
If you receive any emails that worry you, please forward them to safety@shopify.com so we can track this type of activity for all merchants. Although there is no security threat to your store as a result of these emails, I also recommend enabling two-step authentication. This will help you add an extra layer of protection on your account.
If you’re still in the process of building your store, you may wish to keep it password protected until it’s ready to launch.
I have the reCaptcha enabled on my store and still get the these similar annoying emails from SEO “specialists” and “how to get on 1st page of google” marketers CONSTANTLY. it’s really soured my outlook for staying with Shopify for a website, frankly.
I appreciate you sharing your experience here. I know it can be really frustrating to receive these spam messages.
Since these messages are coming in from outside of Shopify, we’re not able to block them entirely. With the help of reports from store owners, our team is watching for trends and continuously looking for ways to reduce spam.
In the meantime, the reCaptcha is intended to help minimize these messages. I recommend giving apps like Zero Spam Contact Form or Shop Protector a try as well to see if they can further reduce the number of messages you’re receiving.
