Is my domain connected properly?

Topic summary

A user purchased a domain through Shopify and encountered SSL and connection issues. Initially, the domain showed “SSL pending” and “needs attention” warnings, with Shopify indicating the domain had a CloudFlare proxy (which Shopify doesn’t support).

Resolution steps provided:

  • Disable CloudFlare proxy in CloudFlare DNS settings
  • Verify DNS configuration matches Shopify requirements:
    • Single A record pointing to Shopify’s IP (23.227.38.65)
    • CNAME record pointing to shops.myshopify.com
    • Remove any duplicate A or CNAME records
  • Allow up to 48 hours for DNS propagation

Current status:
After removing the CloudFlare proxy and extra DNS records, the “needs attention” warning disappeared. However, the domain still doesn’t show a “connected” status in Shopify admin, despite the store being accessible via the domain in a browser.

Additional troubleshooting suggestions include checking for CloudFlare account issues (banned account or billing problems) and contacting Shopify support if problems persist.

I bought a new domain from Shopify yesterday and at first it showed me ssl pending and then after a while it showed me both ssl pending and needs attention saying domain has cloud flare proxy, which is not supported by Shopify and after sometime ssl pending disappeared and now it’s only needs attention is displayed I made few changes in DNS settings and then reset it but when I open up my own domain on web browser it pops up my store but why in my Shopify admin it showed needs attention please update me on this asap

Hello @Maaz_1

  • Disable CloudFlare Proxy from Cloudflare

    • Check if your DNS settings match Shopify’s recommended settings.
    • Remove any extra A records or CNAME records.
    • Ensure only one A record points to Shopify’s IP (23.227.38.65).
    • Have a CNAME record pointing to shops.myshopify.com.
  • DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate globally.

  • If you’re still facing issues, reach out to Shopify support for direct assistance. They can help you troubleshoot the problem effectively.

I did remove Cloudflare proxy and no extra A record or CNAME record and needs attention is no more displayed but there is no connected status on the domain as you can see below

There are 2 common reasons:

  1. If you have a cloudflare account, the DNS setting for A or CName record have proxy enabled. Just go in to DNS management and disable.

  2. Your cloudflare account is banned or has a billing issue. Open a cloudflare ticket and ask them to fix
