Is my navigation intuitive and easy to use?

Topic summary

A store owner is experiencing navigation issues, with customers reporting difficulty finding specific products and an average session duration of only 1 minute 20 seconds. The site uses creative but potentially unclear menu labels like “Collections,” “Collab Corner,” and “Merch.”

Key Problems Identified:

  • Menu categories use ambiguous, creative names that may not clearly indicate product locations
  • Lack of subcategories under main menu items
  • No prominent search bar for quick product discovery
  • Hero image doesn’t link to the featured product
  • Distracting snow effect that occludes content

Recommended Solutions:

  • Replace creative labels with straightforward terms (“Shop,” “About Us,” “Blog”)
  • Add detailed subcategories (e.g., under “Shop”: “All Products,” “Mists,” “Puddles,” “New Arrivals”)
  • Implement a prominent search bar at the top
  • Ensure products are reachable within a few clicks
  • Reduce or remove the snow effect
  • Highlight promotions in dedicated sections

The store owner expressed gratitude for the detailed feedback. The discussion remains open for implementation and further refinement.

I’ve structured my main menu with categories like “Shop All,” “Collections,” and “New Arrivals,” but some customers have reported difficulty finding specific products. The average session duration on my site is 1 minute and 20 seconds, which might suggest frustration with navigation.

Could you try navigating my site and let me know if the categories and subcategories are logical and easy to use? Are there any recommendations for improving the menu structure?

What is “specific”, don’t do this when problem solving if there’s a specific given reason provide it or your just wasting potentially very valuable customer feedback.

What to they search for, and what do they actually look at vs what do they say they are looking for.

All the categories use ambiguous names, so how would a customer expect to find some specific.

It’s like going to car website wanting a sports car and the categories are beach, highway, and nightlife with closeup photos of a beach at night near a street.

Additional existential issues,

I’m not familiar with your niche, so no idea if “drop” is on point or not ,or just piling on more ambiguity.

In tandem with a hero image that shows a product but doesn’t link to a page that shows that product for more ambiguity.

Dial back the snow effect, or get rid of it, when you do stuff like that it should be barely noticeable.

It should not insist on itself by occluding most the site.

Hi @DracoStones88

I took a look at your website, Winks + Wildflower®, and I can see why some customers might have trouble finding specific products. Your main menu includes categories like “Home,” “Collections,” “Collab Corner,” “News,” “Events,” and “Merch.” While these headings are creative, they might not clearly indicate where to find particular items, especially for new visitors.

Observations:

  • Menu Labels: The current labels are unique but may not be immediately clear to all users. For instance, “Collections” could encompass various products, but without specific subcategories, customers might feel lost.
  • Subcategories: There seems to be a lack of subcategories under main menu items, which can make navigation challenging.
  • Search Functionality: I didn’t notice a prominent search bar, which is essential for users who prefer to find products quickly.

Recommendations:

1-Revise Menu Labels: Consider renaming your menu items to more straightforward terms. For example:

  • “Home”
  • “Shop”
  • “About Us”
  • “Blog”
  • “Contact”

2-Implement Subcategories: Under the “Shop” section, introduce subcategories to help users find products more efficiently. For instance:

  • “Shop”
  • “All Products”
  • “Mists”
  • “Puddles”
  • “New Arrivals”
  • “Best Sellers”

3-Add a Search Bar: Place a search bar prominently at the top of your site. This allows customers to quickly find specific products without navigating through menus.

4-Highlight Promotions: If you have ongoing promotions or new collections, feature them in a dedicated section or banner to draw attention.

5-Simplify Navigation: Ensure that customers can reach any product within a few clicks. A streamlined navigation structure enhances user experience and can increase the average session duration.
