Is there a way to alert a customer that an item is non refundable at check out?

Our business makes custom frame orders, but due to nature of the custom framing we don’t offer returns on frames. This is listed on each page of the site, but it requires the customer to scroll past the product info section and click a drop down menu. This probably isn’t the best way to display this information, but I don’t think it’s possible for me to change the site layout. Unfortunately, a lot of customers order framed products and are very angry when they realize they can’t return them.

Is there a way to alert the customer at check out that they are purchasing a non-refundable item? I don’t want customers to be shocked when they find they can’t return their purchase, but I’m not sure that my company would be open to changing the look of our product pages to make this information more accessible. An alert at checkout would be relatively simple and wouldn’t change the browsing experience of the site. Does anyone know if this is possible?

There is a workaround to achieve what you’re looking for without changing the site layout. You can easily add a shipping method notice to notify customers at checkout:

  • From Online Store > Themes > Actions > Edit Languages
  • Click on Checkout & Systems and look for Checkout shipping section > Shipping method notice.
  • Add notice information you want to display to your customer.
  • Hit Save

As I understand it you are looking for a way to stop a customer from checking out until they are fully aware that the product they are purchasing is non-refundable.

To accomplish this what I would suggest is using a third-party app.

I took a look and I did actually find an app that may suit your needs here that also has a free/inexpensive plan that would work for you stopping customers from checking out unless they are keenly aware of your terms and conditions.

You can find it here on the app store, it is called Terms and Conditions Checkbox.

There are plenty of others that may suit your needs better or offer various features that you will need going forward and for that, I encourage you to check the range of other offerings here on the app store itself.
