Is There a Way to Manually Mark an Abandoned Checkout as Recovered in Shopify?

Hello Shopify Community,

I’m currently working with abandoned checkouts, and I’d like to know if there’s a way to manually mark a checkout as “recovered” without necessarily creating an order directly from it. I understand that typically an abandoned checkout is automatically marked as recovered if the customer completes the checkout process or if I create an order through the Shopify Admin based on the checkout details.

However, in some cases, I need a way to mark a checkout as recovered manually — for example, if the transaction was completed through an alternative method outside Shopify or if I need to manually update the checkout status for record-keeping purposes.

Could anyone advise if Shopify provides a feature or setting that allows an admin to manually update the recovery status of an abandoned checkout? Alternatively, if there’s an API-based solution that could achieve this (without creating an order), I’d be interested in learning about that as well.

Hello @Jay7777

Currently, Shopify does not offer a built-in feature in the admin dashboard to manually mark an abandoned checkout as “recovered” without converting it into an order. However, here are 2 alternatives you might consider:

1. Custom Record-Keeping: For manual tracking purposes, you could export abandoned checkout data to a Google Sheet or similar platform and manually update the status there when a checkout is recovered through external methods. This way, you maintain visibility on recovered checkouts without altering the Shopify admin status.

2. Notes or Tags: If you’re comfortable using customer profiles, you could add notes or specific tags to customer accounts who completed checkouts externally. This can help you track them for record-keeping and reporting purposes.

Let me know if you’d like further details on any of these solutions!

Best,
Liz
