I just need to make all orders containing certain items ship ups ground. I am looking for a way to override the option to purchase priority or first class packages when purchasing said item. Is there any way to do this for free without paying an additional $15 a month for an app. This seems like it should be extremely easy. Currently it offers ups ground, but it also offers a cheaper priority mail option. This item MUST be shipped ups ground.
You may be able to do this by using the weight trick, making those items overly heavy in the product admin.
Then trigging a rate only for those high weights.
But that’s a kludge and can create other problems depending on business needs.
Any merchant should carefully examine that mindset for the lethal misconception it is to business health.
If your not making many times more than $15/mth by having complicated shipping rates then why do it.
Get rid of those items get rid of those rates if $15 is a make or break measurement.
What do you pay yourself hourly out of the business…, how many hours are you going to spend trying to solve problems like this when it could be fixed in minutes by specialist dedicated software.
Apps are tools to make money don’t resent them that is a beginners trap and it is economically lethal to your long-term opportunity costs.
It’s like spending a day hammering nails with a brick because a hammer costs $1 to do it in an hour.

This comparison is foolish. I see it posted everywhere in regards to shopify. “If you don’t pay x you don’t deserve y.” I’m sure switching to another platform would allow for my website to work better too. However I don’t think that is an option shopify would want me to explore. Being able to set a specific shipping option for items that can only be shipped ground should be available and it should be included for free. There are cheaper and better alternatives to these apps. I hope you’re getting paid to reply to these messages. If not then you’re hammering a nail with a brick.

If anyone is still dealing with this, it can be done by creating a separate shipping profile and adding that particular item. Then set ground shipping as the only option.
