Confirmed as scam:
Community members verified this is a phishing attempt. Shopify only sends official emails from domains like @shopify.com, @email.shopify.com, or @em.shopify.com—never from public email services like Gmail, Yahoo, or Hotmail.

Similar scam tactics (trademark, compliance, accessibility violations) are commonly reported. Users recommend ignoring such emails and contacting Shopify Support directly if verification is needed.

I’ve received an email which I’m fairly certain is a scam, but if someone could confirm for me I’d feel much happier ignoring it. This was the first I received but they have sent a second one today that is written with more importance/urgency:

Dear Admin,

We are reaching out to inform you that our system has detected unresolved trademark compliance violations associated with your Shopify store. Multiple attempts were made to notify you through your Shopify admin dashboard; however, due to existing technical issues within your store’s backend, these notifications were likely not visible or accessible. As a result, we are now contacting you directly via email to ensure this matter receives your immediate attention.

Please be advised that failure to address these violations within the next 48 hours will result in one or more of the following enforcement actions:

Temporary suspension of your store

Permanent removal of your store from the Shopify platform

Legal exposure due to continued use of protected intellectual property

To avoid escalation, we strongly urge you to resolve the identified trademark issues without delay. If you are currently working with a Shopify expert or legal advisor, we recommend consulting them immediately. If you do not have an expert, please reply to this message with “Shopify Assistant Request”, and we will connect you with a certified professional who specializes in Shopify trademark compliance.

Immediate corrective action is required to keep your store active and in good standing.

Sincerely,
Shopify Trust & Safety Team

The email it is sent from is ‘shopifytechnicalteams.com @ gmail.com’ Further confirmation being that I highly doubt Shopify uses gmail so send such critical emails, however I’d love the comfort of certainty if someone could confirm for me please? Thank you

Hi @MrsPizzaPants

Yes it is a clear scam “shopifytechnicalteams.com [email removed] gmail.com” Shopify will never use Gmail as it states here

https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/privacy-and-security/account-security/phishing#recognizing-legitimate-shopify-emails

Recognizing legitimate Shopify emails

Shopify will only send emails from official domains such as @shopify.com, @email.shopify.com, @em.shopify.com, and @shopify-billpay.melio.com. Emails from public email services such as Gmail, Yahoo, Apple mail, or Hotmail aren’t from Shopify and should be treated as potential phishing attempts.

Now if you did a search here or on Google you could find hundreds of topics with the same scam tactics, trademark, compliance, performance, accessibility rules and so on. There is also a few topics that in detail shows full path that scammers do until they get the money and do nothing.

Stay safe.

@MrsPizzaPants Please note here that any email accounts ending with @gmail or other email providers can be regarded as scam or phishing information, as Shopify never sent notification emails from these accounts.

If you feel unsure whether it is a scam email, you can also reach Shopify Support Team for further verification, a kind reminder here.
