Is this online job offer from a Shopify representative legitimate?

Hi All,

This might seem daft but i was contacted by a “Shopify representative” that offered me a part time online job that involves clicking on items and completing 45 0r 50 clicks. Its in a legit Shopify account as far as i can see but they also want you to deposit cash into the account. You get the cash deposited and profit back once the tasks are complete.

Is this a legit or just a stupid way of losing your money? They even had a group chat set up which seemed like it was ran by chat GPT.

Many Thanks

Sounds super sketchy, don’t even consider it. The Internet is filled with charlatans.

Hi @Bonkers

Thank you for reaching out about this to get a gut check from our community before moving forward with this offer.

I definitely want to ensure that you have as much information as possible about this offer and if you can share some additional information with us about this, hopefully we can investigate this user who reached out to you.

Shopify and it’s direct employees would never contact you unsolicited with any kind of pay first/invest first type of offer. If there was ever a reason for us to contact you unsolicited, it would be by email to your account owner email address . All sender email addresses sent by Shopify should always end in Shopify.com. It is possible to spoof email addresses, so this isn’t 100% guarantee on an emails authenticity.

To ensure an email has been sent by Shopify directly, you can forward it safety@shopify.com for review.

You mentioned that this appeared to come from a legitimate Shopify employee, are you able to share some additional details about that? If you are concerned about providing any sensitive details here in our community forums, then you can instead reach out through our Report a Partner form here: Report a Partner Violation - Shopify.

I also want to clarify that there is a difference between a Shopify Partner/Expert and a Shopify Employee.

Shopify partners are independent developers who have a partner account on the Shopify platform. Partner accounts are free to make, anyone can do so. Partners are always expected to uphold our partner terms of service, but how they manage their relationships with individual businesses is entirely their own. A Shopify partner is not a Shopify employee, nor are they a direct representative of Shopify.

If you believe that you have been misled by a contact and provided sensitive account details, logged into your account by following a link in a message or email, or provided access to your store admin to this user then please reach out to our authenticated support team to report this right away. To access our authenticated support, please follow this link: Shopify Help Center. If you have provided your credit card or banking details to this user then please also contact your bank or credit card provider immediately as well.

If you have any additional details you can share here, please go ahead and do so. I’m happy to investigate this further with you!

Thank you for your response,

I have attached a screenshot of the website that is being used.

I will briefly explain how I was contacted and how the story developed.

  1. I was contacted after clicking on an ad on Instagram claiming that they were following up on my inquiry.
  2. They set up an account and walk you through the set up. You get 45 tasks and click on each one and you make a small amount. It is then you realize that in order to complete the 45 tasks you need to deposit 3000 THB into an account.
  3. Once the first two or three are complete the deposit rises and you are locked in at maybe task 33 or 34 and the deposit has risen by 10 times and you cannot complete or reclaim the money until you finish.
  4. They have a chat group set up with colleagues which seems to be generated by Chat GPT along with a couple of people talking inane nonsense.
There are a series of Whatsapp numbers which may be helpful? The one that claimed to be my superior was somebody called Dew Pyrene +66 95 042 9301 which I realize is a fake person but maybe you can use the information.

Let me know if you would like any additional information from me. I will happily help out as much as I can.

Many thanks for your response.

Regards

I don’t understand people who say that there are no adequate work proposals now. Although it’s even worth checking the site with vacancies https://layboard.in/vacancies/jobs-in-uae/jobs-in-dubai/speciality/dishwasher and making sure that there is a lot of job options. Perhaps, a lot depends on the person’s requirements and an adequate assessment of his skills, knowledge and willingness to learn new things.
