Issue with Invoice Language in Shopify POS

Hello,

I’m experiencing an issue with the Shopify POS app. Although the app interface is set to French and my store is also configured in French, the invoices sent to my customers via email are in English.

I have already checked the following:

  • The primary language of my store is set to French.
  • The email notifications in my store are written in French.
  • The language settings in the Shopify POS app on my device are also set to French.

Despite these configurations, the invoices sent to my customers through Shopify POS still appear in English. Could you please assist me in ensuring that the invoices are sent in French to my customers?

Thank you in advance for your help.

David

Hi @LeTreiz

It sounds like you’ve done a thorough job checking your store and Shopify POS settings, but the invoices are still being sent in English, which can be frustrating when you want a consistent customer experience. Based on what you’ve already tried, the issue could be tied to one of these key areas:

Possible Reasons & Solutions#### 1-Shopify POS Uses the Default Shopify Language for Invoices

Even if your POS app is in French, Shopify might still be pulling the invoice template from your store’s default language settings. To check and update this:

  • Go to Settings > Notifications in your Shopify admin.
  • Click on Order Printer Invoice (or the equivalent template for your POS invoices).
  • Check if the template contains English text. If it does, you may need to manually translate it into French.

2-POS-Specific Invoice Templates Need Translation

Shopify POS can sometimes use a separate template for receipts and invoices. If you’re using Order Printer (or another app for invoice generation), you’ll need to:

  • Open Apps > Order Printer (if installed).
  • Check the invoice template and ensure all text is in French.

3-Customer’s Browser/Email Language Preferences

Shopify sometimes detects a customer’s preferred language based on their browser settings. If your customer’s email client or device is set to English, Shopify might default to English when sending the invoice. Unfortunately, this behavior isn’t always controllable, but a workaround is:

  • Manually generating and sending invoices from Orders > Print Invoice in the POS app.
  • Using a third-party invoicing app like Sufio or Order Printer Pro, which offer full multilingual support.

4-Shopify’s Translation System May Not Apply to POS Receipts

While Shopify supports multilingual stores, some POS-generated receipts/invoices don’t automatically reflect translations. If this is the case, you may need to:

  • Use Shopify Markets and make sure the French language is correctly activated for checkout and notifications.
  • If Shopify Markets is set up correctly, but invoices are still in English, try manually updating the notification templates.

Next Steps1. Check the invoice email notification template in your admin panel and ensure it is fully in French.

  1. Test sending an invoice to yourself and see if it appears in English or French.
  2. If you are using Order Printer or another invoicing app, check if the invoice templates need manual translation.
  3. If none of the above solutions work, contact Shopify Support to verify if this is a system-wide issue.

Let me know if you need more details or step-by-step screenshots—I’d be happy to walk you through it.

If you need any other assistance, feel free to reply and I will try my best to help.
Best regards,
Daisy
