Issues showing multiple product variants - Dawn

Hi everyone, I posted this question a few weeks ago but was unable to get the right response.

Please note, I am not interested in using an app/plug in to do this, as i know this can be done natively within the code.

I am currently building a site that sells cake boxes, the majority of stock will use one of/or both of the following variants:

Colour

Size

I have set both of these up as metafields, and have the front end of my product display showing the colour swatch.

I am currently encountering the following issues:

  1. I have no way of connecting the product size metafields within the product backend

  2. Although Size variant is shown in the product backend (although not metafield) since setting the variant picker to colour, size is no longer showing.

I would like to display size options as buttons (not dropdown) underneath the colour swatches. I know this can be done with coding, but I have very limited coding knowledge and I am struggling to find a solution.

I know you’re looking for a code-based solution, but if you want a no-code option that’s easy to use, I recommend Easify Product Options. It allows you to set up size options as buttons, color swatches, or other flexible choices like dropdowns, checkboxes, and radio buttons—all without touching the code. Here’s how it works:
