Hi everyone,
I’m having trouble with Google not indexing my Shopify store. Despite following best practices, only a few pages are indexed, and others are missing.
I’ve checked the robots.txt file, ensured noindex tags are not applied, and submitted my sitemap in Google Search Console, but the issue persists.
Has anyone experienced similar issues or have any tips on how to resolve this? Any advice or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Hi @maginninfo !
This kind of issue is caused by Google most of the time as it will take time for Google to re-index your store or website. I highly suggest that you reach out to Google Merchant support so, they can further check your URL or site with them.
Hi @maginninfo ,
It sounds like you’re experiencing a common issue with getting your Shopify store fully indexed by Google. Here are some steps and tips that might help resolve the issue based on best practices and common troubleshooting methods:
-
Ensure Your Sitemap is Correct: Shopify automatically generates an XML sitemap for your store. Make sure this sitemap is correctly submitted to Google Search Console.
-
Check for Crawl Errors: Use Google Search Console to check for any crawl errors that might be preventing Google from indexing your pages. Fix any errors you find.
-
Monitor Index Status: Use the Index Status report in Google Search Console to monitor which pages are being indexed and identify any issues.
-
Inspect Individual URLs: Use the URL Inspection tool in Google Search Console to check the status of individual pages. This can help you understand why specific pages are not being indexed. You can refer to this Google guide: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/7440203?hl=en
-
Internal Linking: Ensure that your site has a good internal linking structure. This helps Googlebot discover all your pages more efficiently.
-
External Links: Try to get other websites to link to your store. External links can help Google discover your site and its pages.
-
Patience: Sometimes, it just takes time for Google to index all the pages of a new site. Be patient and keep monitoring the progress.
If you’ve already tried these steps and the issue persists, it might be helpful to seek further assistance from SEO experts or Shopify support.

Hi Maginninfo. Yes - I’ve had the same issue with my store, too. I’ve tried everything that is usually suggested and am posting this here to hopefully help you and any others. When I was using the URL inspection tool, I found that Google didn’t think there was a referring sitemap for any of my products. If you look at your sitemap, you’ll see that it is split into 4 other sitemaps: Products, Collections, Pages, and Blog. I ended up copying each of these sitemap URLs and submitting them individually to Google Search Console. That seems to be the only way that Google has found my pages, other than requesting manual indexing.
I don’t know why the parent sitemap isn’t working, as from what I understand, it should. I’d also remember to keep checking after you add new products as my Product sitemap has a “from” and “to” field in the URL, so I expect that new products will fall outside these parameters and I’ll need to submit a new sitemap. Same for the other sitemaps as well.
Hope this helps - and hope Shopify or someone else sees this and fixes the issue.
