Hey There,

My name is Cameron Wayne. I am the owner of K-9ightLights L.L.C., I noticed the $29 monthly subscription didn’t offer custom domain URL. Please help. We would love to do business together but according to start-up budget, we are in strong hopes someone can assist in removing this default to the start-up account. I am currently subscribed to the $79 acct. I would like to launch this bright future business according to budget and would appreciate any help y’all can provide.

If I understand correctly, you’d like to switch to the $29/month plan, but you also want a custom domain for your store. If that is the case, there are a few options! First, I recommend reading over our pricing page to see what features are available for each plan. If you decide you want to go with our Basic plan, you have two options to add a custom domain to your store:

  1. Purchase a custom domain (domains are available for purchase through Shopify for as little as $11/year!).
  2. Pay for your plan annually and receive a free domain (paying annually also saves you 10% off your subscription price).

In order to take advantage of the second option, you would need to contact our live support through the Help Center. We’re available 24/7 via live chat, email, and callback.

Thank you so much for the response. I am new to shopify so I am still learning the ropes as quickly as possible. So you are unable to use a domain purchased from another website other than shopify? I purchased mine on namecheap.com. I am curious why when I originally purchased the basic $29 plan; when on the shopify admin, it stated that I needed to upgrade my plan. I am unsure why this happened, it would make more sense to be able to use a domain no matter where I purchased it from. There needs to be a way around this.

Thank you for getting back to me and providing some more details, I have a better understanding of the situation now and can provide the right information :slightly_smiling_face:

You can definitely use a domain that is purchased on another site on your Shopify store! You will just need to Connect your domain to Shopify. You can find the steps on how to do that in this help document. If you need help doing that, you can contact NameCheap directly (I found their support page here).

You wouldn’t need to upgrade your plan in order to use a domain, since this function is available with the $29 plan. If you did upgrade to the $79 plan but you want to change back to the $29 plan, you can do so by following these steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings, and then click Plan.
  2. From the Plan page, click Change Plan in the Plan details section.
  3. Review the currently available plans, and then click Choose plan.
  4. Select a billing cycle and payment method, and then review the plan details, billing date, and plan charges.
  5. Click Start plan. If you don’t want to change your plan, then click Cancel.
