Knowledge Base app – Auto-generated FAQs should respect store language, not default to English

Short version

The Knowledge Base app should not default to English for auto-generated FAQs when a store’s primary language is German. Dynamic FAQs should respect the store language, or merchants should be able to choose the output language without losing automatic updates.**

Description**
The Shopify Knowledge Base app automatically generates FAQs based on store settings such as shipping, returns, and policies. However, the auto-generated FAQs currently appear in English, even when the store’s primary language is set to German.

For non-English stores, this creates a clear usability issue:

  • Auto-generated FAQs

stay dynamic and update when store settings change, but they are generated in English

  • Custom or overridden FAQs

can be written in the correct store language, but they become static and no longer benefit from automatic updates

This creates an unnecessary trade-off between correct language and dynamic syncing.

Expected behavior

  • Auto-generated FAQs should be created in the store’s

    primary language

    configured in Shopify under

    Settings>Languages

  • If multiple languages are published, the app should at minimum respect the

    primary store language

  • Ideally, merchants should also be able to choose the language used for auto-generated FAQs without losing dynamic updates

Requested improvement

  • Option 1: Generate default FAQs in the store’s primary language

  • Option 2: Allow merchants to override the language of auto-generated FAQs while keeping them dynamic

  • Option 3: Support language-aware FAQ generation per published store language or market language where applicable

Business impact

  • Improves customer experience for non-English storefronts

  • Prevents mismatched language between storefront content and FAQ content

  • Reduces manual rewriting of generated FAQs

  • Makes the Knowledge Base app more useful for localized and multi-market stores

Store context

  • Primary store language: German

  • Primary markets: DACH (DE / AT / CH)

  • Use case: German-language storefront with localized policies and customer-facing content
