Hello “Community”
-
My website reporting never agrees on the value of Returns/Refunds/Exchanges when I compare the Returns Report or Summary report in Shopify to the reports available within Returnzapp.
-
Often the daily orders value (added line by line, order by order) does not agree with the daily orders value within the shopify analytics report. More ofren than not I notice that the daily figure is much higher than the total value of orders. Upon further inspection this is due to anonymous payouts/credits/refunds from Shopify which I presume has something to do with Shopify deducting sales values against customer refund or return requests.
Does anyone know how I can account for this significany inaccuracy other than to assume the worst and hope for the best. “Not the best accounting practice”
Many thanks in anticipation,

Hi @WUC444 , thanks for posting here!
Based on your questions, I can expand more clearly about the explanation for your problem with Return Zap:
1. Shopify Reports on a Net Basis
=> Shopify Analytics often reflects net sales, which already deduct refunds, returns, and canceled orders, whereas the Returns Report or Returnzapp may show gross order value or processed returns separately.
2. Manual Refunds or Adjustments
=> Those “anonymous payouts/credits” you noticed are likely manual refunds or Shopify Payments adjustments (e.g., partial refunds processed directly via the order page, fraud-related chargebacks, or currency conversion differences).
3. Timing Differences
=> Shopify reports based on order date, but Returnzapp may track by return initiation date or refund processed date - so returns/refunds can fall into different reporting periods.
For those problems I have mentioned above, I hope that you can understand more about how the situation is happening with your store.
Instead of losing a lot of time to deal with this, I highly recommend you try another solution from Syntrack: Returns & Exchange. Our app will help you sync all return order data from Shopify to manage in one place, to avoid discrepancies between your Shopify report and app return report.
For more information, you can read this blog for this app to know more about how Shopify syncs in Synctrack Returns & Exchange works!
