I am trying to limit the purchase quantity per order for a specific product variant to a maximum of 4.

I am using Debut theme, can you please confirm the steps to do this!

I understand you want to limit the maximum number of products in an order for a specific variant of a product to 4. Does that mean you wish the other variants of the same product to have different limits altogether?

What might help you here is an app. For example, on our app store, there is an app called MiniMaxify that has the features you require in order to set Order Limits. You can check it out here.
