Limitations on blog design? - creating custom liquid templates

Hey folks!

I am really struggling with the default blog template for our store (we use Wide Photos currently).

Whenever I add an image, it is extremely clunky and hard to get the image in the place that I actually want it. Every time I move or resize the image, I have to reformat the image again (setting the alignment, text wrapping and borders) and very often, part of the reformatting won’t take so I have to try three or more times to get it to do what I want.

I need our blog to have lots of images - and can’t imagine fighting this template every time I want to blog.

So… it looks like I need to create a custom template, but I really want to know what the limitations of the blog coding are before I try and get waaaaaaay too frustrated trying to make it do something it’s never going to do.

I see from reading other community posts that adding captions to blog images is problematic.

Options are to use the formated text / titles spaced under the image… but seeing how difficult it is to get an image in the right place to visually look great, that idea sounds like a migraine inducer.

Someone asked if it’s possible to automatically set up images with captions using a class (not entirely sure what that means but I understand that “class” is a coding thing) .

That query was answered saying no - it’s not possible.

Sooooo…

Does anyone have any advice or can you show me examples of what a custom blog template can look like? I would love to know if it is possible to create a template that’s easier to add images to!!!

Hi @MasonandCollins Thanks for this long long post. Setting up things without coding is difficult.

One way I can help you is you can send the PSD or any design that you want to apply to your blogs. I will create a multiuse template for you so that you will not have the hassle of settings up things.
