Hello! We have both a retail store and a web store. We allow returns for a refund on purchases made through our website, but in-store we only offer store credit. As we grow our staff and expand to other locations we want the refund process to be as simplified as possible to reduce errors. Is there a way or an app that can either remove the option to refund to a credit card entirely (on POS) or at least make refunding to a gift card the default option? TIA!
We are not aware of any solution that can restrict POS functions. It is not as open for apps, etc., to change functionality as the rest of Shopify is.
Hey! Congrats on the growth! There’s an app called Blox that allows you to hold a refund from happening. That would then flag the customer, so you can go handle the refund as a gift card. This still requires manual intervention, but maybe it gets you closer to a duplicative process that can scale.
From my experience, Shopify POS doesn’t natively support disabling card refunds or setting gift cards as the default refund option - it’s fairly limited in built-in features.
With your demand for growing teams, multiple locations, and a need for a clean, refund flow (which 100% require customization). I recommend ConnectPOS which is highly customizable and built for multi-store operations. It handles refund rules, split payments, store credit/gift card refunds smoothly. So best of luck with your scale-up!
Hey there @jesscaley3124

Firstly, congratulations on the growth of your business! With growth comes the need to structure business more precisely and we thank you for sharing your question with our Shopify Community.
At this moment, there is not an option available that would remove the ability to refund to a credit card, or the original payment method that was used for the purchase.
With “Return rules on Shopify POS", you would be able to create rules for what can be returned (and create your own return window), however, despite the rules that are created, the Shopify POS app would still allow you to issue a refund to the original payment method.
Additionally, there are many apps out there that focus on POS order returns, however, they wouldn’t have the ability to stop the POS app from allowing you to return the item(s).
This would be something that I recommend submitting feedback for and to do this, you’ll want to get in-touch with our Retail Team by visiting the Shopify Help Center to submit your feedback/recommendation so that we can forward it over to our development team.
Thanks,
