Linking products from a NON Shopify (.net URL) store to my Shopify store

Topic summary

A user wants to link or redirect products from their separate .NET store to their Shopify store. They attempted using Shopify’s built-in redirect feature (Content > Redirects > New) but encountered an issue where the system automatically adds a backslash to the beginning of the URL, preventing the redirect from working.

Key Question: Can Shopify’s redirect feature work with external non-Shopify domains?

Response Provided:

  • A community member suggests that Shopify’s backend redirect function only works between URLs sharing the same Shopify domain
  • Recommends testing directly—if Shopify shows an error, external redirects aren’t supported through this feature

Status: The discussion remains open with no definitive solution confirmed. The user may need alternative methods (such as third-party apps or DNS-level redirects) to achieve cross-platform linking.

Hello,

I would like to link/sync/redirect one of my separate NON Shopify stores to my existing Shopify store.

The store that I am trying to link up is a .NET URL

I see how to link URLs to my Shopify store under content>redirects>new but when I add the URL there it adds a backslash to the beginning of the address and it doesn’t redirect.

Is this because it can only redirect from a Shopify URL? Am I not able to redirect from my .NET site?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Hi,
I remember the redirection function in the Shopify backend. Only websites with the same Shopify domain name can set up redirection. I think you can test it directly. If Shopify prompts that it cannot be operated, then it is not possible.
