I have many products that have 6-7 option menus. Two of them are used to build the parts number (so I have those set up in shopify) the remaining are important information needed to custom build the items. The customer can see all of the options on the live website. If we place an order over the phone for a customer, or build a quote (draft) for them from within the shopify admin panel we cannot see the additional (live product option) option menus. Therefore we cannot add the items to a quote with all the details we need.
We build quotes for customers many times a day so this will be an issue. Any ideas?
From your Query from what I understand you are talking about the line item properties that are not going to print the value that customer put.
There is maybe issue in your code that you do don’t put the line item property in the Shopify Product form tag or your don’t follow the best practices of line item property in Shopify.
If you could share the store url then I can inspect it for the main issue.
Hi @residualboulders The native admin doesn’t support custom line-item-properties.
you basically need to add an order note
Or add custom-items for the data entry;
, or outright as the items stand-ins, though this can throw off counts since it’s not actual items or SKUS.
Or use order metafields, and or possibly metaobjects.
Or build a custom backend order form, there’s services like retool, airtable, etc
Or just using spreadsheets then using an order importer app
Or find an app with the needed requirements.
etc etc etc
A stint can be having your staff use the frontend to generate draft orders: https://tasks.mechanic.dev/create-a-draft-order-from-the-cart
Though to go past a band-aid often you might want to make a custom theme for this purpose that has way less noise on it and features like gaurdrails or dedicated order forms.
If you have a budget and need to explore any of these options reach out to me to build the process.

I’m not super familiar with shopify, i’m just outgrowing what I am currently using and need more flexibility to customize. However what i am using now allows this basic functionality. The extreme simplicity of shopify is frustrating sometimes.
I considered just having my employees just build quote from the live site, but i don’t want a “quote” payment option at checkout for all customers. I’d also like to be able to send the customer a quote (draft) from the admin so they can complete the order through that email. If we use the live site, it would just send the quote as an order confirmation. We also often have to add a custom product we don’t have in the database, which doesn’t work on the live website.
And other merchants will say it’s overcomplicated.
if a new system can’t fulfill needs then keep using the old system if there’s an unwilliness to invest in processes on the new systems foundations.
Does the other system have an expansive api or app ecoystem letting you build whatever processes you need as long as your willing to build the process you need.
Temper expectations it’s a surface to build on not magic that just leads to unfounded frustration.
That’s why you’d customize the theme to only show certain things to specific customers.
Or use a separate unpublished theme and they use the preview link etc.
Or the spreadsheet approach etc etc
That’s why you’d use an app to intercept the cart, otherwise it’s order copying shuffles in the backend if you try to do it head on.
As already mentioned, these “extra options” are only available on your storefront, you can’t (easily) use them from the backend.
So suggested workaround is for your employees to use front-end to put necessary stuff into cart and then, instead of going to checkout, convert this cart into a draft order.
Then you can manipulate this draft order as you used to.
There are apps which can do this conversion and you can only show this options to your employee accounts.
When your employees login to the store frontend, this can be automatically changed to look differently from what other visitors see.
Thanks for sharing your problem! With the Easify Product Options app, you will never have to worry about missing product options when have orders again.
Easify has an Export feature that allows you to export all product options from Easify along with order details — ensuring you always have all the data you need to create accurate quotes and process custom products. Go to tab order → export order with options, here are my instructions for you:
I hope this answer helps you resolve the issue. If you require any additional support, feel free to contact Easify at any time — we’ll be glad to assist you.
I understand that your issue is that you can’t add many custom options or see all custom options in Shopify Admin.
This might be a technical issue related to how your current product options or personalization app are set up. Since those options are often generated by scripts that only run on the product page (front-end), they don’t always appear inside Shopify’s admin. It might be worth contacting your app’s support team to confirm the causes for this.
Or you can consider testing out Teeinblue Product Personalizer. With Teeinblue, your customers can customize the item directly on the product page with a live preview. And if customers place orders via phone, you can also customize the product right on the product page, then create and manage the order directly in the Teeinblue app. Every customization detail stays visible and consistent, no missing options or manual notes needed.
