Login/ Lock Access for B2B portal

Hi, I’m trying to implement a custom company registration form that i’ve created (through the forms app) into a locked B2B Wholesale portal. Is there ANY way to have a new customer with no account (and no access to the site) be able to access this form? or maybe even embed a link into the “New Customer” login process? as it stands, If someone is not approved and they visit the site, they’re immediately hit with a “login and we’ll send you a 6-digit code” pop-up message, with no option to register. Even if they coplete the process and get their access code, because they are not registered/ Approved, it just states that they are not authorized… AGAIN with no message or option to register. Can I edit these pop-ups to include this? or is there perhaps another workaround that would accomplish the same goal? Any feedback would help immensely. I’ve been racking my brain trying to get this to work.

Hey @GoDarkBags !

Unfortunately as far as I’m aware, its not currently possible to accomplish this when using Shopify’s native setting for “Restrict access to B2B customers”. This is something we’re running into as well with our Customer Fields app for creating registration forms, and currently our best recommendation is to use an access control app such as Locksmith instead of Shopify’s setting to restrict access.

With Locksmith you can set up rules so that customers cannot access the site (except certain allowed pages such as registration) without having an approved account based on something like a customer tag.

Thanks for getting back to me. I’ve installed BSS Lock & Hide Price and have been using that for a while, but I have noticed that the New Customer Accounts format allows them to log in anyway and see basically an empty site. After switching to Classic Customer accounts, I’ve managed to lock them out successfully and still maintain a link to my custom form. My next and (and hopefully last) question is this; The classic customer accounts ask for a password when logging in, but my custom form, even though it creates a new company and customer account, it does not have an option for a new customer to create a password… Is there some way to implement password creation on the customer side that I am missing? Or Would we have to set the generic password manually for them?

@GoDarkBags ,

Shopify’s new customer account system is specifically a passwordless experience, so there’s no way for customers or staff to set passwords for these accounts, and just to be clear, new customer accounts is specifically required if you are using Shopify Plus’ B2B companies so unfortunately it wouldn’t be an option to just use classic accounts instead.

I am not specifically familiar with BSS Lock & Hide, but I know in Locksmith there is a setting to automatically redirect the customer to a certain page (such as the registration page) if they do not pass the lock condition, so even if the customer logs in through new customer accounts, they would still be redirected to the registration page to submit an application. I would imagine BSS would offer some sort of similar option.

Hello! If I understand your question correctly, you’re asking for a way for prospective customers to request access to your store, within a gated store just for wholesale (no DTC component).

Since your store is gated, you’d need to create a public-facing landing page to accomplish this. With storefront context, you can build a stripped back version of your theme in the online store editor that hides prices, add to cart buttons and even obscures the navigation in the header and the footer, so no one can place orders from the public side. B2B context can be selected from the context selected at the top of the page.PDPs and collection pages are still “live” they’re just not accessible via the storefront navigation unless a customer is logged in.

From there, you can link to your account request form anywhere on the site so that prospective customers can access it.

Hi, thank you for getting back to me! This is precisely what I’m looking to do. When you speak of storefront context, are you referring to the Default context? I see B2B and other specific markets, and the only other is the default (with a globe icon). I have tried implementing your suggestion, and the only issue I’m encountering is when I activate the restrict access to B2B in my store preferences, it still places it on the front end of my default page (public facing). If that is disabled, then yes they can browse the stripped down store, but they can also just log without having to complete the authorization form because there’s no restrictions… Could you offer some guidance in how I could make this behave properly?

I am using BSS Lock too. I contacted customer support, and it turns out that I can lock down my site to everyone except customers with the special tags. So I updated my rule in the app, and thanks to the BSS B2B Solution registration form, I could bulk update tags for customers who registered via its form in the blink of an eye. Now everything still works as a charm. No stress
