Looking for a Buy X Get Y App with Gift Selection Popup

Hi,

I’m looking for a Shopify app with the following workflow:

  • The customer buys a product from a specific collection.
  • After adding it to the cart, a popup (or a gift selection page) automatically opens.
  • The customer can choose the free item from the same collection.
  • It should support Buy 1 Get 1, Buy 2 Get 1, Buy 3 Get 2, etc.
  • I don’t want to manually configure every gift product. I want the app to use the entire collection dynamically.

Is there any app in the Shopify App Store that supports this workflow?

Hi @AymanElgohary

For this kind of workflow (auto popup on add-to-cart, customer picks the free gift from the whole collection, with tiered rules like Buy 1 Get 1, Buy 2 Get 1, Buy 3 Get 2) you’ll need a gift-with-purchase (GWP) app rather than Shopify’s native Buy X Get Y discount. Native discounts can restrict “buy from collection A, get from collection B,” but the customer has to manually add the free item themselves, and there’s no auto popup or auto-add without an app.

A few apps that support collection-based rules (so you don’t have to manually configure every gift product):

  • Gift Box – Free Gift Purchase – supports Spend X, Buy X Get Y, or collection-based rules, with optional auto-add-to-cart and a mobile-friendly popup.
  • Dr Free Gift, BOGO Buy X Get Y – BOGO automation by tag, SKU, or collection with no manual rules to maintain; lets shoppers pick their own gift or auto-assigns one. Built on Shopify Functions.
  • EG Auto Add to Cart Free Gift – lets you schedule BOGO/Buy X Get Y rules and trigger free-gift-with-purchase based on specific products or collections.
  • Tek Labs Free Gift BOGO Upsell – buy X get Y / BOGO by quantity or value, with auto add/remove or manual gift selection, and a popup on add-to-cart/checkout.
  • BOGOS – long-running app covering BOGO, GWP, and bundles via customizable widgets, with POS/headless support.

When setting one up, make sure to check for:

  1. Rule type = “Collection-based” (not fixed product), so any item in your collection counts toward the “buy” condition.
  2. Gift source = same collection, with “customer chooses” enabled (not auto-assign), so they get the picker popup.
  3. Support for tiered ratios (1:1, 2:1, 3:2) in one rule, so you don’t need separate setups per tier.

Thanks.

Thank you.

My requirement is a little different.

Most apps require the customer to open the product page before they can choose the free gift.

I want the customer to be able to add a product from anywhere in the store (Home page, Collection page, Search results, Featured Products, etc.).

As soon as the product is added to the cart, a popup should automatically open, allowing the customer to choose the free gift from the eligible collection.

Is there any app that supports this workflow?

I have used the EG Auto Add to Cart Free Gift app ( EG Auto Add to Cart Free Gift - Auto-add free gifts and BOGO offers with smart targeting rules | Shopify App Store ) for this exact workflow on justyouco.com. The customer can add a product to the cart from anywhere (home page, collection page, search, featured sections, etc.), and as soon as it’s added, a popup automatically opens letting them choose their free gift from the eligible collection. Works regardless of where the add-to-cart action happens.

You can check it outlive here: https://justyouco.com/

See if this fits what you’re looking for or let me know if you have any other questions!

I need to be able to add the product from anywhere — the home page or the collection page (not only from the product page). As soon as the product is added, a popup should appear to select the second product. After the second product is selected, the system should calculate which product has the lower price and make it free.

Do you specifically want an app for this or are you OK with custom development too? If your requirement is as straightforward a theme developer can do this and save you the monthly money for such a small feature.

If you’re set on using an app there’s a lot of options actually. Search “Gift With Purchase” in the Shopify App Store and any top rated app should suffice.

I’d prefer a ready-made app for this. Could you recommend a specific “Gift With Purchase” app that supports these exact requirements?

  1. Add the product from anywhere — home page or collection page, not just the product page.
  2. As soon as the product is added, a popup appears to select the second product.
  3. After the second product is selected, the lower-priced item becomes free automatically.

If you can point me to one that handles all three, I’ll go with it.

Hi, @AymanElgohary

The workflow you described, triggering a Free Gift Selection Popup immediately after an item is added to the cart from any page (Homepage, Collection, Search, or Quick Add) is supported by modern Shopify free gift/BOGO apps using Theme App Embeds and AJAX cart event listeners.

Here are the top Shopify apps that support store-wide add-to-cart popup triggers, dynamic collection rules, and multi-tier free gift logic:

1. BOGOS: Free Gift Bundle Upsell

  • Store-Wide AJAX Trigger: Detects cart updates across the entire store. When customers use Quick Add or add a product to the cart from any page, the Gift Selector Popup opens automatically.

  • Dynamic Collection Pool: Simply select a collection as both the trigger and the gift source, there’s no need to add products individually.

  • Multi-Tier Logic: Supports offers such as Buy 1 Get 1, Buy 2 Get 1, and Buy 3 Get 2, automatically displaying the appropriate number of free gift selections.

2. EG Auto Add to Cart Free Gift

  • Store-Wide Popup Support: Lets you create rules based on specific collections. As soon as a qualifying product is added to the cart from any page, it can trigger a gift selection popup/modal or a reminder banner.

  • Dynamic Collection Rules: Allows customers to choose their free gift from an entire collection instead of being limited to a single predefined product.

3. GP Auto Add to Cart & FREE Gifts (by Productive Passengers)

  • Store-Wide AJAX Support: Compatible with custom AJAX carts and slide-out cart drawers.

  • Collection-Based Gift with Purchase: Create Buy X Get Y offers that allow customers to select their free gift from the same collection through a popup.

How to Configure This Workflow in BOGOS

1. Enable the App Embed

Go to Shopify Admin → Online Store → Themes → Customize → App Embeds, then enable the BOGOS app embed so it can listen for store-wide AJAX cart events.

2. Create a Buy X Get Y Campaign

  • Trigger (Buy X): Select Specific Collection and choose your target collection.

  • Gift Source (Get Y): Select Products from Collection and choose the same collection.

  • Selection Mode: Choose Let Customer Choose via Popup (do not set a fixed automatic gift).

3. Configure Tiered Offers

  • Tier 1: Buy 1 → Pick 1 Free

  • Tier 2: Buy 2 → Pick 1 Free

  • Tier 3: Buy 3 → Pick 2 Free

BOGOS is one of the best options.

I hope this will help you.

Thanks!

Hi @AymanElgohary

Yes, there are a few Shopify apps that support this type of workflow, but not all of them allow customers to dynamically choose a free gift from an entire collection.

You can check out these apps:

  • AOV Free Gift & Buy X Get Y – Supports collection-based free gifts and popup gift selection.

  • Monk Free Gift+Checkout Upsell – A great option for Buy X Get Y offers with automatic gift selection.

  • BOGOS – Popular for Buy 1 Get 1, Buy 2 Get 1, Buy 3 Get 2 promotions and also supports collection-based offers.

  • EasyGift – Another good option for dynamic free gift promotions.

Hi @AymanElgohary and the community!

 I’m Ellie, and thank you all for recommending our BOGOS app. I’m happy to clarify & show you how to set up what you need.

There are actually 2 approaches to set it up with BOGOS: Free Gift Bundle Upsell app, depending on which part matters most to you:

Option 1: Gift with purchases

Best if your collection doesn’t have too many products and you want to show a popup.

:white_check_mark: Flow: Customer adds a product from any page → popup opens automatically → customer picks a free gift from the same collection.

:white_check_mark: Apply to your collection
:white_check_mark: Supports tiered rules (Buy 1 Get 1, Buy 2 Get 1, Buy 3 Get 2) (not stacking with each other)

:no_entry: The selected gift on the popup is always the free item. It doesn’t compare prices to make the cheaper one free. If this matters, switch to Option 2.

:no_entry: For selecting gifts, you can filter by collection in the app, then manually select the gift products from that collection.

Option 2: Discount on Cheapest/Most expensive Item

Best if your collection has many products (showing all in a popup may overwhelm customers) and you want the cheapest-item-free logic.

:white_check_mark: Flow: Customer adds products from anywhere (best practice is from your collection page) → the app auto-calculates and makes the cheapest item free.

Note: There is also a widget to help you promote the offer on the product page.

:white_check_mark: Supports tiered rules (Buy 1 Get 1, Buy 2 Get 1, Buy 3 Get 2).

:white_check_mark: Collection-based targeting.

:no_entry: No popup to select the second product. Customers add products themselves from any page of your store, or via the promotional widget on the product page.

So it depends on your priority: if the popup experience matters most, go with Option 1. If the cheapest-item-free logic matters most, go with Option 2.

Please let me know if you need any further help !

Hi there @AymanElgohary
You may be interested in searching for a bundle or gift with purchase app that supports collection based rules and dynamic product selection. A few apps also enable you to specify a qualifying collection and the customers pick an item from the eligible products rather than creating offers for individual items. Review the app settings to ensure that there is support for automatic cart triggers, free gift selectors, and tiered promotions such as Buy 2 Get 1. It is best to test the workflow on a duplicate theme first.
