I do not need any features other than being able to generate a clean looking PDF in the standard business invoice format.
There’s gotta be an app that is free with no limitations and ONLY does that one thing. I would even be willing to pay 1.99 per month for something that is merely taking the order info and inserting it into a predefined template, but I can’t be paying for a bunch of features that I do not need.
You may not need an app if you want to keep this free. You can export your Shopify orders as a CSV and use an LLM like Claude to generate a clean invoice template. Just paste a sample order and ask it to format a professional invoice in HTML or PDF format with your logo, customer details, line items, taxes, and totals. Once the template looks right, you can reuse it for future orders and export the result as a PDF when needed.
It’s a trap to get in a mentality of being a business that cheaps out on one the a fundamental things that literally makes you money.
File generation cost money, template system is a cost multiplier then being able to send email to arbitrary addresses is yet another cost multiplier.
There’s the mechanic automation app that has a pay what feels good pricing policy if you contact them.
But it’s script based so you’ll have to do the work in setup and making the template.
There’s also some kludge of using shopify flow to either update rows in a google-sheet and trying to do free pdf generation that way, or having it mail you that you then turn into a pdf > attach > then send to an address present in the initial email etc.

The app I finally found was Shoptopus: Invoice Generator, for anyone in the future trying to do exactly what I am describing, this is the app. The dev gets it.
