Looking for Advice and Feedback - Next Steps

Hi everyone,

I’m a fairly new business owner running an e-commerce pet supplies/accessories shop and at the moment I am feeling stuck in a rut, unsure of where to really go next to get my shop in a place where it can be successful. I have especially tried marketing through various social media channels (FB, IG, Google, TikTok, and Youtube). Despite that, I have not seen too much success. At the moment my budgets are starting to run dry and I’m not even sure if I’m on the right path that would help my store become more successful.

If there is anyone that has some resources, advice, links, feedback or anyone that I should get in touch with to get more help, I’d very much appreciate it!

For those that are curious and for reference, my shop is at: www.pawsitivedelight.com

Hello @jasonjl192

  • Make sure your website is easy to use and navigate. Your website should be visually appealing and informative. It should also be mobile-friendly.
  • Make sure your website is optimized for search engines so that people can find it when they search for pet supplies or accessories. You can do this by using relevant keywords and phrases in your website’s title, meta descriptions, and throughout your content.
  • Social media ads can be a great way to reach a wider audience and generate interest in your products. When creating social media ads, be sure to target your ads to people who are interested in pet supplies or accessories.
  • Discounts and promotions are a great way to attract new customers and encourage existing customers to buy more from you. You can offer discounts on individual products, bundles of products, or shipping costs.
  • Pet influencers can be a great way to reach a wider audience and generate interest in your products. When working with influencers, be sure to choose influencers who have a large following of people who are interested in pet supplies or accessories.
  • Pet expos and trade shows are a great way to meet potential customers and partners. When attending these events, be sure to have plenty of business cards and samples of your products on hand.
  • Get involved in the pet community by volunteering at local animal shelters or rescue organizations. This is a great way to build relationships with pet owners and promote your business

Remember, success takes time and effort. Don’t give up!

Hey there,

Running an e-commerce business can indeed be challenging, especially when you’re trying various marketing channels and not seeing the desired results. Here are a few suggestions to help you move forward:

  1. Evaluate your marketing strategies: Take a step back and analyze your marketing efforts. Identify which channels are performing better than others and focus on optimizing those. It’s important to understand your target audience and tailor your messaging accordingly.

  2. Refine your social media strategy: Instead of spreading your resources across multiple social media platforms, consider narrowing your focus to one or two channels where your target audience is most active. Invest time and effort in creating engaging content, building a community, and leveraging influencer partnerships.

  3. Explore niche communities: Look for online communities or forums where pet owners and enthusiasts gather. Engage with these communities by providing valuable insights, answering questions, and promoting your products where appropriate. Building relationships with niche audiences can lead to loyal customers.

  4. Collaborate with pet influencers: Identify popular pet influencers who align with your brand values and audience. Collaborating with them for product reviews, giveaways, or sponsored posts can help increase brand visibility and generate more targeted traffic to your store.

  5. Optimize your website: Ensure that your website is user-friendly, visually appealing, and optimized for search engines. Pay attention to product descriptions, images, and navigation. Consider adding customer reviews and testimonials to build trust and credibility.

  6. Leverage email marketing: Focus on building an email list of interested customers and implement targeted email campaigns. Offer exclusive discounts, new product updates, and valuable content to incentivize conversions and encourage repeat purchases.

  7. Seek guidance from experts: Consider reaching out to marketing consultants or agencies that specialize in e-commerce. They can provide valuable insights, conduct a thorough analysis of your business, and offer tailored strategies to help you overcome obstacles.

Remember, success doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a continuous learning process, and adapting your strategies based on data and feedback is essential. Stay persistent, monitor your metrics, and be open to testing and experimenting with new approaches. Good luck with your pet supplies shop!

Hello @jasonjl192 ,

I took a look into your store. The design looks really good and there are some cool products. I would like to make some suggestions to further improve design and optimize conversion rate:

1) Home page:

  • Always give the reason of why a collection and product is highlighted. It could be “Best sellers”, “Trending products”, “Sale” or highlight a specific product etc:

  • If your CTA is directing to a product page, instead of using “Order Now” or “Buy Now” you could use “Shop now”, “Explore”, “View more”. Many users will think “Order Now” will direct to checkout page:

  • Include less text, more links. Majority of customers don’t read a section if there are more than a few sentences. For example when you talk about your brand, give a short description and provide a CTA where they can read more. It’ll also help regarding SEO:

  • When customers reach to the bottom of the page, it’s better to provide a CTA where they can keep surfing on your website. This could be a bottom banner, highlight some collections etc. Currently they’ll need to scroll up a bit to keep surfing and you may lose some visitors:

  • Also, It’s better to show menu when the header is hovered with mouse on desktop. Currently customers will need an extra click on the hamburger menu:

2) Collections & Products:

  • You should avoid long texts on collection headers. Currently they take full page, even more on mobile screens; risking to lose visitor’s attention:

  • If you wish to include a collection description, I’d suggest you to use a banner like:

  • Product page sections start with full width, becomes too narrow on descriptions and full width again on reviews. It takes too much scroll to reach to reviews and it’s not user friendly as it is. You could split description to 2 columns, or serve description and reviews side by side in 2 columns. Alternatively you can give a little description then provide the rest of details with accordion:

  • You got some innovative toys and products listed. However I’d suggest you to look for ways to expand your products. A cat owner that’s looking for toys has just 3 options. Also consider that some pets are crazy and break their toys in a short time. So you may offer some simple, expendable toys.

  • Free shipping is great. However it may not be the optimal solution for pet supplies where there are simple and cheap products. You may offer free shipping on orders above a certain amount. This will allow you to offer more products and have control on the price more. You may implement an A/B testing and feature the progress bar on cart like:

3) Blogs & Content:

As ads are not covering the expenses, you should look for ways to increase your organic traffic and it goes through adding more content, talking with target auidence. I’d suggest you to write some blogs about pets, pet care etc. to increase your credibility. Also it helps a lot regarding SEO as you can target keywords. You can highlight them in a related collection or home page for more content. If you need some blog ideas, feel free to check out a pet store I’ve designed: link

4) Email marketing:

Email marketing has a higher return rate than ads. It’s great that you offer discount to your subscribers. You can also provide discount codes for first customers then include it on announcement bar and place the section above the footer so that they won’t miss it:

5) Loyalty & Reward Program:

I would suggest you to implement a loyalty & reward program. Customers are more inclined to buy knowing that they’ll be getting discount points on repeating purchases. Also you can build a solid customer base. Example:

6) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR):

In today’s marketplace, customers are increasingly sensitive to social and environmental issues. By implementing corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, such as contributing to animal shelters or partnering with charitable organizations, your pet store can attract and satisfy socially conscious customers who value businesses that make a positive impact.

I hope these help and good luck! Feel free to reach out if you need any further assistance.

Hi @jasonjl192

Some Shopify fellows gave you great tips above - from macro to micro, that you can check them out :slightly_smiling_face:

Here’s my 2 cents:

  1. To know what solution is the best, can you define what challenges you are facing? (awareness, driving traffic to the website, conversion from traffic to sales, etc.?)
  2. Once you’ve narrowed down the issue, look for the root cause. Is your content not ringing true to your target audience? If so, change your content strategy (and prolly channels). Are the visuals not appealing? Are there not enough convincing reviews?

Last but not least, it’s important to remember that eCommerce is stepping into a dry spell period - many brands and stores are struggling, while paid ads keep raising their prices.

Therefore, stay focused on your effort and promotion. It’s always good to work hard, but work smart is much better.

I’m more than happy to talk with you more about your biz, feel free to connect with me on Twitter @vianingrowth.
