Hi, does any know of any good alternatives to Shopify. So far, I’ve had customer service on ‘Chat’ with an average response time of 1hr and 12m between each message (and then asked if I want to continue the chat, after about 5mins from their end!).
Also, I get taking a fee on every transaction, that’s a good model, but then an annual fee for using their service…which is code that’s already written and then charged for, nothing bespoke. What do you actually get for that I wonder, are there competitors that take a % of transactions only?
After my £1 a month trial and my first sales, Shopify seemed to prefer my money in their bank account a bit longer and so decided I needed to go through extra security, (whilst still feeling it was secure enough to charge me from..funny that). fine, sounds fine but didn’t get an email or a notification, just had to go asking the question myself. So while this was happening, the money from my sales, which I need to live on, just sat in shopify. MMMM lovely interest when you’re doing it to a thousand small businesses at a time. Be great to have some escrow backed hedge fund going hard for Shopify. Lovely stuff.
They came for my annual fee, no email saying it was coming up or anything? It’s hard to start a business, people don’t learn the same way as each other, it’s nice to have notifications that are designed to help and protect as well as maximise Shopify share of wallet. Because of the above, my account didn’t have my sales in it, so couldn’t cover the fee. Guess what? NOW I’m getting notifications!
Does the community think Shopify have got some sort of monopoly so they don’y have to treat us like valued customers? Does another platform offer basic functionality like estimating customs charges without having to upgrade?
Does the community think I will ever be able to speak with somebody on the phone at Shopify?
Does the community think it’s easy to set up a shopify account but then tough and counterintuitive to navigate when you need to make business decisions early on. Can these frustrations lead to ‘giving in’ and paying for huge (seriously, £300 a month to have a bit of code switched on that gives buyers an estimated duty and taxes amount based on their location?) upgrades when you only need a basic bit of functionality added.
Be interested to know if anyone can help or is everyone feeling isolated on stuff like this?
