Looking to sell digital downloads... What formats are supported?

I have a business idea to sell digital downloads. I would be selling an audio file and a .json file together. I know that Shopify only accepts one file per product, but there is a help message from last year that says I could potentially use a .zip file for this.

I was playing around with the Shopify interface just now but, unfortunately, it says that file types: .zip, .mp3, .json., and .webm are all “not supported”.

Am I getting that message because I’m on a non-paid account? Is there some other trick that I’m missing?

5 MINUTE UPDATE: I’ve been trying to solve this problem since yesterday. Naturally, 5 minutes after posing my question I think I stumbled on the answer. It appears there is a Digital Downloads app, and it looks like it supports .zip files. Unfortunately, the app has gotten pretty horrible reviews. (Which makes me think I should look elsewhere.)

To simplify your digital product journey, please do check out Wire.

  • Wire enables the sale of files (pretty much all file types you listed and also zip files :wink: ) and also URLs for messenger links/coupon codes
  • Enable your customers to download instantly post-purchase in your store and/or send out a stylized email with download links
