It is absolutely ludicrous that in order to get shopify out of our lives, we must submit to another text from a company with which we do not want contact. To opt out, one must enter one’s cell phone number, then provide the code sent in the text, which was the reason for opting out!
I am reporting it as a spammer and will follow up by reporting it to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). FCC rules are in place and meant to be followed by the likes of shopify and its ilk.
Merchants are unaware of what shopify has been doing and, the most recent merchant, appalled at shopify’s tactics.
It is also interesting to note that a copy and paste of the URL of the opt out page results in a paste of a completely different url.

Contacting shopify is a lesson in stress and frustration. There is no real means to contact shopify. Sending “stop” in response to any of its text messages results in its response that it is not a subscription. That doesn’t matter, according to FCC, if a consumer sends “stop” in reply to a text, the company must cease and desist.
I never signed up for shopify and I did not appreciate its intrusion into my privacy. The number I used with the merchant was a landline; somehow, shopify found my cell number and sent text messages to it demanding that I verify my identity. At least I was able to bypass that demand in order to complete the purchase. I have notified this merchant along with one other regarding the shopify tactic. (No, I did not use my phone to make the purchases.)
So, shopify, back the f888 up and get out of our lives.
